Boys Soccer Varsity vs Rushville @ Triton Central High School Win (Boys Soccer 2A Sectional #26) Varsity vs Centerville @ Triton Central High School Win (Boys Soccer 2A Sectional #26) The New Castle High School boys soccer team was drawn against the Rushville Lions for their opening round match of 2A sectional #26 held at Triton Central High School. The Trojans scored one goal in each half of that match, and blanked Rushville to advance to the semi-final round. Paul Stapleton scored the opening goal after receiving an assist from Jack Bertram. Evan Millikan scored the second half goal when he found himself on the end of a ball that took a couple of deflections from Rushville after it was carried from the back and sent forward by Ezra Hood. The Trojans defense kept Rushville's attack to a minimum and Luke Mendoza recorded one keeper save. The New Castle High School boys soccer team took on the Centerville Bulldogs in the semi-final of 2A sectional #26, hosted by Triton Central High School. This back and forth affair finished in favor of the Trojans with the final score of 4-3 in double overtime. Evan Millikan opened the scoring in the first half when he converted a penalty kick after he was taken down in the 18 yard box. Jack Bertram scored the second goal for the green and white after being assisted by Millikan. This gave New Castle the lead again after Centerville was able to tie the match. The drama did not end there though. Centerville tied the match in the 47th minute and was able to take their first lead of the match just one minute later. The Trojans were able to lock the match up in a tie again when Bertram converted a penalty kick that was awarded after Owen Atwood was fouled from behind in the box. There would not be another score in regulation, leading to the two overtime period format. After a scoreless first overtime period, With five minutes remaining in the second overtime period, Atwood put away the game winner on an assist from Bertram. Luke Mendoza had two keeper saves, Brayden Malek had a non-keeper save, and several members of the defense were in on a furious battle to keep the ball out of their net at one point in the match. The Trojan boys now advance to take on the Greensburg Pirates on Saturday at Triton Central High School. Kick-off is at 2pm.
