The Girls in Green won a hard-fought county matchup against Knightstown on Saturday morning. Both teams battled the elements and played strong on both sides of the field, with New Castle winning 5-3. Senior Audra Cornett was the first to find the back of the nets, with a long goal from 26 yards out putting the Trojans up 1-0. Audra would also assist on a Carlee Lanzer goal later in the second half. Later, with under 5 minutes to play in the first half, senior Chelsie Groce, assisted by senior Bailey Stearns, slipped a contested shot past their keeper to put the Trojans up 2-1. The second half was even more of a back-and-forth affair with Knightstown tying the game twice before the Trojans could close out the victory. Freshman Carlee Lanzer put in two goals and a penalty kick in the second half, sealing the victory for New Castle. Strong defensive efforts from Corinne Harvey and Bailee Smith were crucial to the win, as well as shut-down sweeps from Macie Morehouse and Colbie Jackson. Goalkeeper Allison Perdue continued her amazing season and brought her saves total to 213, which places her 4th in saves in the state of Indiana and 1st in the HHC. The Trojans move to 4-10 on the season. They will have a Senior Night matchup with Anderson on Tuesday 10/1 at home on Neal Field. That game will begin at 7:00PM.
