The girls soccer team traveled to Ball State on Thursday to play the Owls of Muncie Burris and brought home a 3-1 victory. After a scoreless first half for both teams, junior Tay Thompson put in her first goal of the night early in the second half. An inadvertent call from one of the officials allowed Muncie Burris to put in their lone goal of the night, tying the game at 1-1. Thompson followed this with a miraculous second goal from inside the penalty area just a few minutes later. Just over halfway through the second half, freshman Carlee Lanzer put in the final goal of the night, sealing the score at 3-1. Overall, the keys to the game rested on the defense's complete shutdown of the Owls' offense. Senior Corinne Harvey played shutdown defense on their key player while Colbie Jackson, Macie Morehouse, Bailee Smith and Audrey Tafoya cleaned up the opponent's passes and allowed the Trojan's offense to flourish. Clean passing and communication from Thompson and Lanzer as well as Ashlynn Blessinger, Wattie Watson, Chelsie Groce, Bailey Stearns, and Chloe Ross allowed for much quicker and more aggressive offensive style. The Girls in Green move to 3-10 on the season and will face Knightstown on Saturday 9/29 at home on Neal Field. That match will begin at 11:30AM.
