2024 New Castle invitational The New Castle Cross Country team had the chance to compete on their home turf on Tuesday Sept. 17th. We started the evening celebrating our 4 seniors Catherine Willis, Sylvie Terrell, Annabelle Rector and Elizabeth Merritt. There is a lot of hardwork and dedication in these young ladies. The Girls ran first with our girls up against 26 other female athletes. Anyah Amman took off in the lead and never looked back, maintaining the top position for the whole race. She finished a minute and 20 seconds ahead of the competition in a time of 21:00.7. Just ten seconds short of the long standing course record. Lauren Gilman battled her way to 3rd place with a tight race at the end. New Castle finished with our top 7 in the top 15. Sylvie Terrell in 7th, Catherine Willis in 9th, Mallory Owens 11th with Audra Nichols and Annabelle Rector finishing in 14th and 15th. Receiving a top 20 Ribbon Elizabeth Merritt was 19th with Abigail Schwartz narrowly missing top 20 in 22 place. Caroline Watterson with a strong race finished up our girls in 32 place. These scores allowed our girls to bring home the first place trophy on a brutal course. These girls are really working hard this season. This win comes after a very close 2nd place at Randolph Southern this past weekend. Only 2 points separated first and second at Randolph. The New Castle boys had a great home meet as well! Finishing 3 boys in the top 20. Elijah Blankenship in 15th place battling hard with Jordan Cook coming in next in 16th place and Sammy Huynh in 19th place. Drennan Terrell in 26th, Dylan Bunner in 31 st, Carson Stacy in 32nd, and Carter Atwood in 47th finished out our top 7. There was a battle within the New Castle team for 48th and 49th. Simon Huynh in 48th by .68 of a second with Micheal Mckee in 49th. Finishing up is Joshua Julson in 52 place. This boys team is composed of no Seniors and 5 Freshman. We are really building a strong Trojan boys team. I look forward to great
