New Castle High School

New Castle boys and girls traveled to the 27th Annual Marion Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7 202. This is a fast, flat and scenic dedicated Cross Country course on IWU campus. The lady Trojans started the day at 8:30 with 119 total runners making 22 total teams. The female athletes took a 3rd place finish as a team, with three girls getting medals for a top 35 individual finish. Anyah Amman in 3rd place, Lauren Gilman in 12th and Sylvie Terrell in 25th. Catherine Willis, Audra Nichols, Mallory Owens, Liz Merritt finishing out the rest of the scoring team. Abigail Schwartz and Caroline Watterson rounded out the rest of the girls team. This girls team improved season best times by 20 seconds up to 3 mins. Several of these girls achieving life time bests and narrowly missing a new school record. This girls team is really picking up speed coming off a 2nd place team finish at Rushville last weekend. I can’t wait to see how the season progresses. The boys team toed the line at 9am with 210 total boys to make up the 28 teams. We have very solid group of boys this year. We are working on our depth but these boys put in the work every meet. We saw significant improvements this race with almost every boy having a season best time and/or a lifetime best time. Season best improved times ranged from 5 seconds to 1:30 seconds. This is a tight group of boys. The top 7 runners were Elijah Blankenship, Jordan Cook, Dennan Terrel, Sammy Huynh, Dylan Bunner, Carter Atwood, Michael Mckee. Carson Stacy, Simon Huynh and Joshua Julson finished out our team. We have no seniors and 5 freshman this year. We have so much potential this year and I love seeing the growth. We are looking forward to the Randolph southern invite this weekend!
