Last Tuesday, New Castle High Swimming girls experienced a hard-fought defeat against Yorktown. The competition was fierce, with each swimmer giving great swims. However, New Castle couldn't quite get the win against the Yorktown team. The meet started off with the 200 Medley Relay of Sydney Mathew, Olivia Owens, Alaina Bowman, and Drew Arthur placing 2nd, missing 1st by less then a second. The girls gave their all throughout the whole competition. The first place finishers included Owens in the 200 free and 100 backstroke, Mathews in the 200 IM and 100 free, and Arthur in the 50 freestyle. Other great finishers included Freshmen, Brenna Howe, finishing 2nd in the 500 free. Senior, Alaina Bowman, placed 3rd in the 100 butterfly. The 200 Free relay team of Riley Crabtree, Lydia Kivett, Aubrey Lapp, and Brenna Howe placed 2nd. The girls swim team ended the night with a win from the 400 freestyle relay team that included Owens, Bowman, Arthur, and Mathews.
