Senior Tylin Thrine, ranked 3rd in the state, won his fourth semi-state title Saturday with a 7-2 win over #8 Donald Bowie of Warren Central. Thrine will wrestle for his second state title at Gainbridge Fieldhouse beginning Friday, February 20th. The Trojans started strong with all five wrestlers winning their opening round match. Thrine opened the day with a pin of Bishop Chatard’s Rex Reynolds in the 138 lb weight class followed by Freshman Aiden Flowers, ranked #19 at 165, winning by pinfall over Tarun Konakondla of Brebeuf Jesuit while Senior Darin Reynolds defeated Carmel’s Eli Isen 15-10 at 175 lbs. Junior Nathan Shafer, ranked #22 at 190 lbs, fell behind 6-0 while wrestling on an injured ankle but showed tremendous guts to pin Jack Hubbard of Guerin Catholic. Then, Senior Trent Supinger outlasted Brody Aeschliman of Zionsville 17-14 to upset the 7th ranked wrestler in the state. In the second round, all five Trojans faced state ranked wrestlers. Thrine took care of #12 Gavyn Kemp of Roncalli 21-2 but Flowers fell to #21 Cohen Davis of Hamilton Southeastern 6-2. Reynolds was pinned, a result of some controversy as some questioned whether the ruling was accurate, by #14 Michael Morton of Roncalli. Shafer's reward for his grit in the first round was #1 Michael White of Lawrence North who pinned Shafer to advance while Supinger couldn’t follow his upset of #7 when he was pinned by #5 Colin Whetsel of New Palestine. It was left to Thrine to carry the Trojan banner into the semi-finals where he pinned #19 Colt Goodman of Franklin Central in 1:09 to advance to the finals against Bowie.
