On Tuesday, May 21 the Trojan Girls Track & Field Team had six athletes compete in the Regional Meet held at Ben Davis High School. Five of those six athletes competed in two events and three of those athletes had advanced to the Regional Meet for the second year in a row. Top 3 finishers advance to the State Meet. The rain had stopped but the weather was cool, in the mid 50s with a strong wind out of the east which presented a challenge for some of the events.

The Trojans had one athlete advance to the State Meet. Sophomore Tristan Barr advanced to State Meet for the second year in a row in the Pole Vault. Barr’s vault of 10 feet 10 inches was good for second place and advancement to the State Meet to be held at Indiana University on Saturday, June 1. Senior Grace Smith also placed in the Pole Vault but did not advance to State. Smith’s vault of 8 feet 6 inches was good for sixth place. Both Barr and Smith have had a great season in the pole vault placing toward the top of every meet.

Sophomore Bailey Cox, also advancing to the Regional Meet for the second year in row, a ran a great 1600 meter race and placed fifth with a personal best time of 5:28.19. Cox got out fast with the lead pack for the first two laps of the four lap race. On the last lap Cox put on a strong surge to move from eighth to fifth in the last 200 meters of the race. Freshman Anyssa Hall advanced out of the prelims in the Long Jump with a leap of 15 feet 8.5 inches in order to compete in the finals. Ultimately Hall placed ninth with a jump of 16 feet 2.50 inches. Hall also competed in the 100 meter dash where she placed thirteenth with a time of 13.37 seconds. Hall ended a very strong freshman season leading the Trojans in the 100 and 200 meter dash, anchoring the 4 x 100 meter relay, and early in the season setting a new school record in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet 3 inches. Sophomore Emma Thurman competed in the High Jump for the second year in a row. Unfortunately, Thurman was unable to clear the opening height of 4 feet 10 inches. Thurman ended a very successful season where she lead the Trojans in the high jump as well as both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. The Trojan 4 x 400 relay team consisting of Barr, Cox, Smith, and freshman Ava Bell also competed and had a solid posting of 4:26.61 to wrap-up the meet.
