New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team beat a good Winchester Golden Falcons basketball team 73 to 38. The Trojans got off to a great start on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans got off to a hot start shooting the basketball. The Trojans did a nice job of making the extra passes and getting the ball to the open guy. On defense, the Trojans made the Golden Falcons turn the basketball over and shoot contested shots all night long. The Trojans did a really good job of rebounding the basketball and contesting every shot the Golden Falcons shot. The Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 9 points. Trey Miller, Devon Fielden, and Colin Blessinger all had 3 points apiece. Dillon Bergum added 2 points and William Grieser had 1 point. The Trojans were leading the Winchester Golden Falcons after the first quarter 21 to 4.

The second quarter the Trojans continued to knock down shots on the offensive end. We kept making the extra passes and trusted our teammates to make plays. The Trojans continued to play extremely hard on defense making the Golden Falcons work hard for any shot attempt they got. The Trojans ball pressure made it difficult for Winchester to get anything going. The Trojans were led in scoring by William Grieser with 5 points. Cole McDaniel added 4 points. Devon Fielden had 3 points. Trey Miller, Brandon Matney, and Isaac French all added 2 points. The Trojans had the lead at the half over Winchester 39 to 20.

At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments on both ends of the floor. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to push the ball in transition and put certain Golden Falcons defenders in ball screens to get mismatches. The Trojans executed this adjustment and made the Winchester big man come out and guard our quick guards off the dribble. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to keep doubling the Winchester post player, but do it another way than we thought. The Trojans continued to execute on the offensive end and made the extra pass to get great shots and we knocked those down. The Trojans ball pressure made it hard for the Golden Falcons to do anything all night. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 7 points. Colin Blessinger had 5 points. Trey Miller added 3 points. Devon Field, Dillon Bergum, Caleb Grown, and Brandon Matney all had 2 points apiece. After the third quarter the Trojans were leading the Winchester Golden Falcons 62 to 26.

The fourth quarter the Trojans continued to get anything they wanted. The Trojans continued to make the extra passes and get great shots. On defense, the Trojans continued to make it difficult on the Golden Falcons to get anything going on the offensive end. The Trojans dominated the glass and kept Winchester’s big men from getting any second chances. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 5 points. Michael Holmes and Caleb Grow both had 2 points. Derek Tabor and Devon Fielden both added 1 point. The Trojans beat the Winchester Golden Falcons 73 to 38.

Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of moving the basketball the entire game. We made the extra pass and hit the open guys for shots. The Trojans got any shot they wanted after we moved the basketball. Cole McDaniel and Trey Miller did a great job of knocking down shots the entire night. William Grieser and Dillon Bergum did a fantastic job of finding the open guys. Brandon Matney did a good job attacking the offensive glass and getting the Trojans second chance opportunities. The Trojans let their great defensive play led to their offense. Defensively, the Trojans did a really nice job. The Trojans ball pressure gave the Golden Falcons trouble all night. William Grieser led the Trojans with 8 steals. The Trojans limited Winchester to one and done all night long. Devon Fielden, Colin Blessinger, and Brandon Matney controlled the glass for the Trojans. This was a great team win for the Trojans to start the season.

The Trojans led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 20 points. Trey Miller added 13 points. Devon Fielden had 9 points. Colin Blessinger had 8 points. William Grieser added 6 points. Dillon Bergum, Caleb Grow, and Brandon Matney all had 4 points apiece. Michael Holmes and Isaac French had 2 points. Derek Tabor added 1 point.

The New Castle Trojans are 1-0 to start the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action Friday, November 29 against the Greenwood Woodmen at the New Castle Fieldhouse. The Varsity game will tip off at 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
