New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team beat a big and physical Jay County Patriots basketball team 73 to 33. The Trojans got off to a great start on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans were hot shooting the basketball. The Trojans did a nice job of making the extra passes and getting the ball to the open guy. On defense, the Trojans made the Patriots work for everything. The Trojans ball pressure gave the Patriots trouble and caused them to turn the ball over. The Trojans were led in scoring by Collin Blessinger with 9 points. Caleb Grow added 5 points. Trey Miller, William Grieser, and Cole McDaniel both had 3 points apiece. The Trojans were leading the Jay County Patriots after the first quarter 23 to 2.
The second quarter the Trojans continued to make the extra pass and knock down shots. The Trojans could not miss a shot. The Trojans defense led to easy basket opportunities for there offense. Defensively, the Trojans continued to dominate the game on this side of the ball. The Patriot offense was running out by half court and they did not like the pressure the Patriots were putting on the basketball. The shot attempts the Patriots did take were contested, and the Trojans did a great job rebounding. The Trojans were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 6 points. Deven Fielden, Dillon Bergum all had 3 points apiece. Cole McDaniel added 2 points. The Trojans were leading at the half over the Jay County Patriots 40 to 9.
At the half, the Trojans did not make any adjustments. Offensively, the Trojans continued to do anything they wanted, but the shots weren’t falling like they did the first half. The Trojans executed there offensive sets and got the basketball were it needed to be. Defensively, the Trojans let up the intensity a little bit, but continued to limit the Patriots opportunities. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 6 points. Brandon Matney had 4 points. Trey Miller added 3 points. After the third quarter the Trojans were leading Patriots of Jay County 53 to 20.
The fourth quarter the Trojans continued to get any shot we wanted on every possession down the floor, and was able to knock the shots down. The Trojans took care of the basketball and did not let the Patriots ball pressure force us to make mistakes. On defense, the Trojans were locked in all night long, and made the Patriots work for every shot attempt they got. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring by Michael Holmes with 6 points. Gavin Welch and Cooper Rusch both had 4 points apiece. Collin Blessinger had 3 points and Dillon Bergum added 2 points. Trey Miller had 1 point. The Trojans beat the Jay County Patriots 73 to 33.
Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of moving the basketball and knocking down wide open jump shots. The Trojans took care of the basketball and was patient on the offense and it led to easy baskets. Trey Miller and Collin Blessinger did a great jump of hitting shots the entire game. Michael Holmes and Cooper Rusch also came in and gave the Trojans great minutes and hit shots. Defensively, the Trojans did a great job of guarding the basketball the entire game. The Trojans ball pressure caused the Patriot guards to turn the ball over and play a lot faster than they usually do. William Grieser and Brandon Matney led the way for the Trojans on the defensive end. They were the leaders getting steals and rebounding the basketball.
The Trojans led in scoring by Trey Miller with 13 points. Collin Blessinger had 12 points. Cole McDaniel added 11 points. William Grieser and Michael Holmes both had 6 points apiece. Caleb Grow and Dillon Bergum both added 5 points apiece.Cooper Rusch, Gavin Welch, and Brandon Matney all had 4 points apiece. Deven Fielden added 3 points.
The New Castle Trojans are 3-3 to start the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action Friday, December 20 against the New Palestine Dragons at the New Castle Fieldhouse. The Varsity game will tip off at 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
