New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team beat a talented and athletic Anderson Indians basketball team 54 to 53. The Trojans got off to a great start on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans were hot shooting the basketball. The Trojans did a nice job of making the extra passes and getting the ball to the open guy. On defense, the Trojans made the Indians shoot contested jump shots and limited the Indians to one opportunity every time down the floor. The Trojans made the Indians work for every shot they took the first quarter. The Trojans were led in scoring by William Grieser with 7 points. Trey Miller added 3 points. Caleb Grow had 2 points and Devon Fielden had 1 point. The Trojans were leading the Anderson Indians after the first quarter 13 to 6.

The second quarter the Trojans continued to make the extra pass and knock down shots, but on the defensive end we let up on out intensity. The Indians turned it up on the defensive end and the Trojans started getting careless with the basketball, and that led to the Indians getting easy baskets. The Trojans relaxed on the defensive end and let the Indians make a huge run to get back in the basketball game. The Trojans started getting driven around for easy baskets and stopped rebounding the basketball. The Trojans were led in scoring by Collin Blessinger with 5 points. William Grieser added 4 points. Cole McDaniel and Trey Miller both had 1 point apiece. The Trojans were tied with the Indians at the half 24 to 24.

At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments on both ends of the floor. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to get back to what was working in the first quarter. The Trojans needed to move the basketball and make the Indians work on the defensive end of the floor, and that would lead to wide open shots. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to contain the dribble drives and make sure we were in good helpside defensive position. The Trojans got back to what was working the first quarter and was executed the adjustments, but we forgot you had to play defense as well. The Trojans did not execute the defensive game plan, and we let Anderson drive around us and get wide open looks all over the floor in the third quarter. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 6 points. William Grieser added 4 points. Trey Miller and Devon Fielden both had 2 points. After the third quarter the Trojans were trailing the Anderson Indians 42 to 38.

The fourth quarter the Trojans continued to get any shot we wanted on every possession down the floor, and was able to knock down big shots when our team needed them. The Trojans took care of the basketball and did not let the Indians ball pressure force us to make mistakes. On defense, the Trojans finally settled down and started containing the basketball and forcing the Indians to shoot contested jump shots. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 6 points. William Grieser had 4 points. Devon Fielden added 3 points. Caleb Grow had 2 points and Collin Blessinger added 1 point. The Trojans beat the Anderson Indians 54 to 53.

Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of moving the basketball for the majority of the game. The Trojans took care of the basketball really well as a team besides for a stretch in the second quarter where we got careless with the ball and let the Indians make a run. Cole McDaniel was able to knock down a floater at the end of regulation to get the Trojans the WIN. William Grieser was able to take care of the ball, and get to the rim and score the basketball. He also was 100% from the free throw line. Devon Fielden hit a huge three in the fourth to get the Trojans right back within striking distance. Defensively, the Trojans did a really nice job the first and fourth quarter containing the basketball and forcing the Indians to shoot contested jump shots. The second and third quarter were the complete opposite. The Trojans allowed the Indians to do whatever they wanted. Devon Fielden, Brandon Matney, and William Grieser all did a good controlling the boards for the Trojans all night. This was a great win for the Trojans after a tough loss last night.

The Trojans led in scoring by William Grieser with 19 points. Cole McDaniel added 13 points. Trey Miller, Devon Fielden, and Collin Blessinger all had 6 points on the night. Caleb Grow added 4 points.

The New Castle Trojans are 2-2 to start the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action Friday, December 13 against the Shelbyville Golden Bears at Shelbyville High School. The Varsity game will tip off at 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
