New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball Team lost in the Sectional Championship in a hard fought battle against a very good Delta Eagles basketball team 59 to 55. The Trojans got off to a great start on the offensive end of the floor. We were sharing the basketball and knocking down open shots. The Eagles came out in a 1-3-1 zone, but had to soon switch after the Trojans hit shots and was able to get easy layups against the zone. On the defensive end the Trojans were making the Eagles earn every basket they got. The Eagles were one and done every time down the floor. The Trojans were led in scoring by Mason Hardwick with 8 points. Brandon Matney had 3 points. Blake Burris, Luke Bumbalough, Nicolas Grieser all added 2 points. The Trojans were beating the Delta Eagles 17 to 10 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter the Trojans struggles to knock down shots, but was able to battle and keep the lead going into halftime. On defense, the Trojans continued to do a great job guarding the Eagles. The Trojans were being physical and making it hard for the Eagles players to catch the basketball were they wanted to. We did a great job following the scouting report and we continued to rebound the basketball at a high level. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 5 points. Mason Hardwick added 3 points. Collin Blessinger had 2 points. The Trojans had the lead at the half against the Delta Eagles 27 to 22.

At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments offensively and defensively. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to do a better job of setting screens off the basketball to free shooters up. On the offensive end, the Trojans continued to get great looks at the basket and did a great job taking care of the basketball. On the defensive end, the Trojans wanted to make some adjustments on how they guarded certain actions the Eagles ran. The Trojans let the Eagles get off to a fast start to start the third quarter but settled down and was able to stay in the game. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough and Mason Hardwick both had 6 points apiece. After the third quarter the Trojans were all square with the Eagles of Delta 39 to 39.

In the fourth quarter, the Trojans started off really slow and let the Eagles get a nine point lead early in the fourth quarter. The Trojans were able to cut that lead to one point with 2 minutes to go in the game. We had multiple opportunities to take the lead in the fourth but could not get over the hump. On the defensive end, the Trojans started out really slow but was able to get multiple stops in a row and cut into the Eagles lead. The Trojans did a nice job of getting stops and not letting the Eagles get second chance opportunities. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring in by Luke Bumbalough with 8 points. Nicolas Grieser and Blake Burris both had 3 points. Collin Blessinger added 2 points. The Trojans got beat by the Delta Eagles 59 to 55.

Offensively, the Trojans got off to a great start and was able to knock down shots and get an early lead on the Eagles. We did a great job all night taking care of the basketball. We only had 4 turnovers the entire game. Mason Hardwick did a great job stepping up and hitting huge shots in the basketball game. Luke Bumbalough had 8 assist on the night. Luke was making the extra pass because the Eagles were loaded up to stop him. Nicolas Grieser hit a huge 3 in the fourth quarter to get the Trojans within 1 point of the eagles. Defensively, the Trojans did a really good job of rebounding the basketball for the most part. The Eagles were bigger than the Trojans at every possession on the floor. Brandon matney and Collin Blessinger did a great job battling down low and rebounding the ball. Nicolas Grieser did a nice job guarding the Eagles best player all night. The Trojans played extremely hard and left it all out on the floor. This senior class of Mason Gillis, Luke Bumbalough, Nicolas Grieser, Blake Burris, Mason Hardwick, Wes Chamberlin, and Nolan Beam all made a huge impact on the New Castle Basketball Program. We want to wish all these players the best in all that they do in life and you all made New Castle and this program proud.

The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 21 points. Mason Hardwick had 17 points. Blake Burris and Nicolas Grieser both added 5 points apiece. Collin Blessinger had 4 points. Brandon Matney added 3 points.

The New Castle Trojans finished the season 13-11. Go Trojans!!!
