The Trojans got off to a great start getting a four and out on defense, and the offense had a 6 play drive for a touchdown by Aiden Bradley. Bradley ran for a 5 yard touchdown, and Bradley also converted the 2 point conversion to give the Trojans a 8-0 lead over Delta. The Delta team drove down the field and scored to end the first quarter. The score after one was New Castle 8 Delta 6.
The second quarter the Trojans could not get anything going on offence. The Trojans would drive the ball but could not get it into the endzone. Delta would score on a long drive to take the lead at the half 14 to 8.
At the half, the Trojans made defensive and offensive adjustments. On the offensive end we wanted to block some things differently upfront. Defensively, we wanted to continue to play bend don’t break defensive and continue to tackle as a team. We received the kickoff and marched right down the field on a long drive and capped it off with a Aiden Bradley touchdown. The Trojans tied the game 14 to 14. The Trojans defense held tough and got a big stop on 4th down to give the Trojans the ball back with under one minute to go in the 3rd quarter. So, at the end of the third 1 quarter the game was tied at 14 apiece.
To start the fourth quarter the Trojans took care of the football and drove the ball down to the 20 yard line and Aiden Bradley connected with Quentin Boatright on a 35 yard touchdown pass. Aiden Bradley also converted the two point conversion. The Trojans took the lead 22 to 14 with just under 7 minutes to go in the game. The Trojan defense held the Delta Eagles offense and got the Trojan offense the ball back but we could not get a first down. The Trojans had to punt the ball back to Delta. Delta had a long touchdown run but failed to get the two point conversion. The Trojans still lead 22 to 20. The Trojans got the kickoff and run the ball but had to punt the ball back to Delta with 2 minutes remaining in the game. Delta drove the ball down the field and scored with 35 seconds to go in the game. Trojans lost a tough game to Delta 28 to 22.
The New Castle Trojans 8th Grade Football lost a tough game to the Delta Eagles 28-22. Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of taking care of the football and running the ball for a total 235 yards on the ground and threw the ball for 85 yards. The line of Michael York, Chloe Vaughn, Sam Morris, Wyatt Maiden, Jayden Gilpin, and AJ Sizemore did a good job upfront. Defensively, the Trojans played hard and did a nice job of stopping Deltas running attack between the tackles. Aiden Bradley, Daniel David, and AJ Sizemore all had several tackles. Michael York made 3 tackles for a loss. Brevan Thrine had a few touchdown saving tackles. This was a tough loss for the Trojans but we will bounce back and be ready to play next week.
The Trojans were led in rushing by Aiden Bradley with 145 and 2 rushing touchdowns and 1 throwing. Jonathan Eberhart had 45 yards on the ground. Daniel Davis ran for 35 and Brevan Thrine ran for 10 yards. Aiden Bradley completed 7 passes on the night for a total of 85 yards. Jonathan Eberhart caught 4 for 40 yards. Quentin Boatright caught 1 for 35 yards and Brevan Thrine caught 2 for 10 yards.
The Trojans record is 1-1 and will play at Mt. Vernon Middle School next Wednesday, September 5. The 8th grade game will start at approximately 6:45pm. Go Trojans!!!
