New Castle JV Boys Basketball Team beat a big and physical New Palestine Dragons basketball team 41 to 39. The Trojans got off to a slow start on the offensive end of the floor. We could not get a basket to fall and we had trouble taking care of the basketball. On the defensive end the Trojans were awful. They showed no energy and they did not play hard. They let the Dragons do whatever they wanted and didn’t attempt to stop them. The Trojans were led in scoring in the first quarter by Isaac French with 3 points. Derek Tabor had 2 points and Sam Maddy added 1 point. The Trojans were trailing the New Palestine Dragons at the end of the first quarter 14 to 6.
The second quarter the Trojans continued to struggle on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans could not get a basket to fall on a consistent basis. On the defensive end the Trojans continued to struggle. The Trojans could not stay in front of anyone and they did not rebound the basketball. The Trojans were led in scoring by Bryce Jenkins who had 3 points. Matt Bell and Sam Maddy both had 2 points. The Trojans trailing at the half against the New Palestine Dragons 23 to 13.
At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments on both sides of the ball at half. On offense, we wanted to get the basketball out in transition and try to get some easy baskets. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to guard the basketball and stop letting them get into the paint anytime they wanted. In the third quarter the Trojans finally started getting their offense going. We pushed the basketball up the floor in transition and led to easy baskets. Once the Trojans started seeing the ball go through the basket we started playing on both ends of the floor. Defensively, the Trojans picked up the pressure and that cause the Dragons to turn the ball over and force shots. The Trojans rebounded the basketball and got it out to the guards and were off to the races. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Ethan Hinton with 7 points. Isaac French, Sam Maddy, and Jackson Clapp all had 2 points apiece. Kyler Sears added 1 point. After the third quarter the Trojans were tied up with the Dragons 27 to 27.
To start the fourth quarter, the Trojans continued to play well on the offensive side of the basketball. The Trojans did a great job of getting to the free throw line and knocking them down to seal the game. Defensively, the Trojans played solid defense in the fourth quarter to get the win. The Trojans got stops when we had to and did a nice job rebounding the basketball. The Trojans were led in scoring by Isaac French with 9 points. Derek Tabor had 3 points and Sam Maddy added 2 points. The Trojans beat the New Palestine Dragons with a final score of 41 to 39.
Offensively, the Trojans struggled to put the basketball in the basket in the first half. We could not get anything going, but in the second half the Trojans got the ball out in transition and that led to easy baskets for the Trojans. Bryce Jenkins and Matt Bell gave the Trojans a spark on both ends of the floor. Ethan Hinton hit big shots in the 3rd quarter and Isaac French sealed the game from the line. Defensively, the Trojans we terrible in the first half. We let the Dragons do anything they wanted to do on offense. In the second half the Trojans picked up the defensive intensity and sped the Dragons up. Derek Tabor and Jackson Clapp played great defense on the two best players for the Dragons all night.
The Trojans were led in scoring by Isaac French with 14 points. Sam Maddy and Ethan Hinton both had 7 points apiece. Derek Tabor added 5 points. Bryce Jenkins had 3 points. Matt Bell and Jackson Clapp both had 2 points. Kyler Sears added 1 point.
The New Castle Trojans JV Team is 6-1 to start this season. The Trojans JV Team will be in action on Saturday, December 21 at the New Castle Fieldhouse against the Muncie Burris Owls. The JV tip will be at 6pm. Go Trojans!!!!
