New Castle JV Boys Basketball Team lost against a very skilled and talented Mt. Vernon Marauders basketball team 44 to 22. On the offensive end we could not buy a basket and had trouble taking care of the basketball. The Marauders defensive pressure caused the Trojans to turn the basketball over. When we did not turn the ball over we got open shots, but could not knock them down. On the defensive end the Trojans played great defense, but we could not get anything going on offense. We protected the the paint and caused the Marauders to shoot contested jump shots. The Trojans did not score in the first quarter. The Trojans trailed the Mt. Vernon Marauders after the first quarter 4 to 0.

The second quarter the Trojans finally got something going and got a few shots to fall. The Trojans got a lot of good looks, but could not get enough shots to fall. On the defensive end the Trojans continued to defend and force the Marauders to shoot contested jump shots. The Trojans rebounded the basketball and limited the Marauders to one shot every possession. The Trojans were led in scoring by Gavin Welch with 3 points. Sam Maddy, Dawson Scott, and Jackson Clapp all has 2 points apiece. The Trojans were trailing at the half against the Marauders of Mt. Vernon 14 to 9.

At the half, the Trojans made a few offensive and defensive adjustments. On the offensive end we wanted to try to push the basketball in transition and try to get the offense going. Defensively, we wanted to continue to guard and just wanted to guard one player differently. Offensively, the Trojans struggled to knock down perimeter jump shots. The Trojans moved the basketball and got good looks at the basket but could not get any shots to fall. Defensively, the Trojans continued to play good solid defense until late in the third quarter. Late in the third quarter the Trojans tried to press and cause some turnovers. It worked the first few times we did it. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Sam Maddy had 3 points. Ethan Hinton and Gavin Welch each had 2 points apiece. After the third quarter the Trojans were trailing the Marauders of Mt. Vernon 23 to 16.

To start the fourth quarter the Trojans continued to struggle shooting the basketball. The Trojans got good looks at the basket, but could not get the shots to fall on a consistent basis. On the defensive end the Trojans started to take a lot of chances to try to cause the Marauders to turn the basketball over. The Marauders did a nice job of taking care of the ball, and beating the pressure and that led to easy baskets. The Trojans were led in scoring by Derek Tabor, Isaac French, and Jackson Clapp all had 2 points. The Trojans got beat by the Mt. Vernon Marauders with a final score of 44 to 22.

Offensively, the Trojans could not get anything going. The Trojans made the extra pass and got great looks, but could not get them to fall. Defensively, the Trojans played great defensively for 3 quarters, and then in the fourth quarter we did things we usually do not do and that led to easy baskets for the Marauders.

The Trojans were led in scoring by Gavin Welch and Sam Maddy both had 5 points apiece. Jackson Clapp had 4 points. Derek Tabor, Ethan Hinton, Isaac French, and Dawson Scott all had 2 points apiece.

The New Castle Trojans JV Team is 7-2 this season. The Trojans JV Team will be in action on Friday, January 10 at the Tiernan Center against the Richmond Red Devils. The JV tip will be at 6pm. Go Trojans!!!!
