New Castle JV Boys Basketball Team beat a young and talented Winchester Golden Falcons basketball team on Tuesday night 55 to 32. The Trojans got off to a good start on both ends of the floor. The Trojans were hot from the perimeter and executed offensively. We moved the basketball and got open looks all over the floor. On the defensive end the Trojans were locked in and had great ball pressure and Winchester’s guards struggled. The Trojans made it hard for the Golden Falcons to run their offense and get anything going. The Trojans forced the Golden Falcons into a lot of turnovers and contested jump shots. The Trojans were led in scoring in the first quarter by Sam Maddy, Gavin Welch, and Isaac French all with 5 points apiece. Derek Tabor added 2 points. The Trojans were leading the Winchester Golden Falcons at the end of the first quarter 17 to 5.

The second quarter the Trojans continued to make it hard for Winchester to get anything going on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans made the Golden Falcons work on the offensive end every time down the floor. The Trojans had great ball pressure and limited Winchester’s opportunities to score the basketball. Offensively, the Trojans continued to do a great job of moving the basketball and getting great shots. We valued every single possession down the floor and made the Falcons defense work. We did a good job of executing on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans were led in scoring by Sam Maddy with 5 points. Isaac French and Jackson Clapp both had 2 points. The Trojans had the lead over the Golden Falcons at the half 26 to 7.

At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments on both sides of the ball at half. On offense, we wanted to continue to move the basketball and continue to take care of the ball. The thing we wanted to do a better job of was setting better screens on and off the basketball. Defensively, we wanted to continue to do what we did in the first half, but the one thing we wanted to do better was knowing when to go for steals and how to go for a steal. In the third quarter the Trojans got sloppy on both ends of the floor. The Golden Falcons went to a zone and the Trojans started jacking up shots and did not value their possessions. Being undisciplined on the offensive end led to their play on the defensive end of the floor as well. The Trojans let Winchester drive right around us and let them get easy baskets. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Sam Maddy with 5 points. Kyler Sears had 4 points. Gavin Welch and Ethan Hinton both added 3 points. Dawson Scott had 2 points. After the third quarter the Trojans were leading the Winchester Golden Falcons 43 to 24.

To start the fourth quarter, the Trojans wanted to make sure we valued every position and got the best shot possible. We did a great job of taking care of the basketball, but we struggled on knowing what was a good shot and a bad shot. Defensively, the Trojans continued to let the Golden Falcons drive around us and get easy opportunities at the rim. The Trojans did do a nice job rebounding the basketball all night long. The Trojans were led in scoring by Ethan Hinton and Jackson Clapp both with 3 points. Sam Maddy, Kyler Sears, and Gavin Welch all had 2 points apiece. The Trojans beat the Winchester Golden Falcons with a final score of 55 to 32.

Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of taking care of the basketball the entire game. On the offensive end the Trojans did a great job of getting good shots every time down the floor in the first half. In the second half the Trojans got careless and started jacking up shots that were not the best shots. We are young and it is early in the season and will learn from it. Sam Maddy and Derek Tabor did a great job of getting the Trojans in their offense and taking care of the basketball. Isaac French, Kyler Sears, and Dawson Scott did a really good job of getting the Trojans second chance opportunities. Defensively, the Trojans played great the first half. We made the Golden Falcons shoot contested jump shots, and when they drove the ball we had defenders ready to help. The Trojans dominated the glass and did not let the Golden Falcons get very many offensive rebounds. In the second half the Trojans got sloppy and let Winchester get some easy baskets, but we will learn from that and get better throughout the season. Gavon Welch, Jackson Clapp, and Nate Smith did a great job rebounding the basketball and limiting the Golden Falcons to one shot attempt every possession.

The Trojans were led in scoring by Sam Maddy with 17 points. Gavin Welch had 10 points. Isaac French added 7 points. Kyler Sears and Ethan Hinton both had 6 points. Jackson Clapp added 5 points. Derek Tabor and Dawson Scott both had 2 points apiece.

The New Castle Trojans JV Team is 1-0 this season. The Trojans JV Team will be in action on Friday, November 29 at the New Castle Fieldhouse against the Greenwood Woodmen. The JV tip will be at 6pm. Go Trojans!!!!
