New Castle JV Boys Basketball Team beat the Richmond Red Devils Friday night 44 to 33. The Trojans got off to a slow start on the offensive side of the basketball. The Trojans could not hit a shot. Trey Miller was the only person who could score the first half. The Trojans the first quarter could not stop Richmond at all. We couldn’t stop getting driven around which led to easy baskets for the Red Devils. The Trojans were led in scoring the first quarter by Trey Miller with 7 points. The Trojans were trailing the Richmond Red Devils at the end of the first quarter 11 to 7.

The second quarter the Trojans continued to struggle guarding the basketball and Richmond was getting easy shots from the field. Richmond shot a very high percentage from the field the first half, but when you are getting to the basket at will that happens. Offensively, the Trojans could not buy a basket, and was lucky Trey Miller was hot and put the Trojans on his back the first half. The Trojans were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 9 points. Derek Tabor added 2 points. The Trojans trailed the Richmond Red Devils at the half 22 to 18.

At the half, the Trojans made adjustments on both sides of the basketball. On the offense end the Trojans wanted to move the basketball and get the ball to the paint and then kick it out for shots. The Trojans needed to push the basketball but just be smart on when to attack and then when to pull it back out. Defensively, we mixed up our matchups and guarded who we needed to on the floor and helped off the others. We also talked about how we wanted to guard the ball screens the Red Devils were setting. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 11 points. Michael Holmes had 5 points. Isaac French and Deven Fielden both had 2 points. After the third quarter the Trojans were leading the Red Devils 38 to 33.

To start the fourth quarter, the Trojans got every player in the game and they played hard. On the defensive end the Trojans made Richmond turn the ball over and contested every shot they took. On the offensive end we continued to take care of the basketball and did a great job of getting great shots. The Trojans were led in scoring by Michael Holmes, Trey Miller, and Deven Fielden all with 2 points apiece. The Trojans beat the Richmond Red Devils with a final score of 44 to 33.

Offensively, the Trojans struggled the first half and could not buy a basket. Trey Miller kept the Trojans in the game by himself the first half of the game. The second half the Trojans started getting to the basket and knocking down jump shots. Defensively, the Trojans played great team defense the second half of the game. We held the Red Devils to one shot every time down the floor and made them shoot tough contested jump shots.

The Trojans were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 29 points. Michael Holmes added 7 points. Deven fielden had 4 points. Derek Tabor and Isaac French both had 2 points.

The Trojans are 6-2 this season. The New Castle Trojans JV Team will be in action on tonight, January 5 at the Spartan Bowl against the Connersville Spartans. The JV tip will be at 6pm. Go Trojans!!!
