The New Castle High School boys varsity soccer team was the home team on the scoreboard, but the visitor by way of the venue, as they took on The Yorktown Tigers for the Class 2A Sectional# 24 title. The back and forth event saw the ball played in the Trojans defensive end for most of the first half. Other than a flurry of attempts late in the first half, the boys in Kelly green did not pose much of a threat. The second half appeared more of the to be more of the same until the final 20 minutes, when New Castle was the aggressor and continued to attack in numbers. After several attempts fell just shy of reaching the intended target, Eddy Yousak was able to find himself on the receiving end of Austin Morgan’s thru-ball. That was in the 77th minute, and a couple of touches later and the Trojans were on top for good. The match ended with a 1-0 score line. The team’s defense withstood the attack of Yorktown all game, though their were some close moments. Andrew Glover ended the match with 6 saves, as he and the defense made it 239 consecutive scoreless minutes during the state tournament so far.
