New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team beat the Muncie Burris Owls basketball team 69 to 40. The Trojans got off to a great start on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans were hot shooting the basketball. The Trojans hit seven 3 pointers in the first quarter. The Trojans were making the extra pass the entire game. On defense, the Trojans were letting the Owls do whatever they wanted. The Trojans wanted to dictate the pace of the game and ball pressure the owls. The Trojans let the Owls basket cut and get paint touches whenever they wanted. The Trojans were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 17 points. Cole McDaniel added 7 points. Collin Blessinger had 2 points. The Trojans were leading the Muncie Burris Owls after the first quarter 26 to 13.
The second quarter the Trojans went cold shooting the basketball and they let that affect the way they played on defense as well. The Trojans were getting the same looks they got the first quarter, but could not knock them down. Defensively, the Trojans continued just to play and let the Owls do whatever they wanted. The Owls got good looks at the basket just about every possession down the floor. The Trojans were not ready to play in the first half of the basketball game. The Trojans were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 3 points. Brandon Matney and Caleb Grow both had 2 points apiece. The Trojans were leading at the half over the Muncie Burris Owls 33 to 23.
At the half, the Trojans made adjustments on both ends of the floor. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to push the basketball in transition and make the Burris defense have to get back and guard us on the run. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to pick up the intensity and cause the Owls to turn the ball over and speed up. On the offensive end of the floor, the Trojans did exactly what we talked about and it led to easy baskets and wide open looks. The Trojans started to hit shots and let there defense lead to easy offense. Defensively, the Trojans picked up the pressure and made the Owls turn the ball over several times. Those turnovers l;ed to easy baskets for the Trojans. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Collin Blessinger with 6 points. Cole McDaniel added 5 points. Derek Tabor had 3 points. William Grieser added 2 points. Brandon Matney had 1 point. After the third quarter the Trojans were leading Owls of Muncie Burris 50 to 33.
The fourth quarter the Trojans continued to attack the basket and get wide open shots. The Trojans were making the extra pass and hitting shots. On defense, The Trojans ball pressure made the Owls struggle. The Owls were turning the ball over and the Trojans made the pay. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 9 points. Trey Miller added 6 points. Gavin Welch had 3 points. Isaac French added 1 point. The Trojans beat the Muncie Burris Owls 69 to 40.
Offensively, the Trojans got off to the extremely hot start knocking down 7 3 pointers in the first quarter. The Trojans cooled off in the 2nd quarter, but the second half the Trojans warmed back up. Trey Miller hit 7 3 pointers in the basketball game. Cole McDaniel also shot the ball well against the Owls. Defensively, the Trojans got off to a terrible start in the first half, but coaches halftime talk must have got the Trojans fired up and they picked up the pressure. In the second half the Trojans cause the Owls to have double digit turnovers and that led to great shots for the Trojans. William Grieser gave the Owls fits all not. Brandon Matney dominated the glass.
The Trojans led in scoring by Trey Miller with 26 points. Cole McDaniel had 21 points. Collin Blessinger added 8 points. Brandon Matney, Gavin Welch, and Derek Tabor all had 3 points apiece. William Grieser and Caleb Grow both had 2 points. Issac French added 1 point.
The New Castle Trojans are 5-3 to start the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action Friday, January 3 against the Mt. Vernon Marauders at the New Castle Fieldhouse. The Varsity game will tip off at 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
