New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team beat a very talented Mt. Vernon Marauders basketball team 41 to 38. The Trojans got off to a slow start. The Trojans could not put the basketball in the basket and got careless with the basketball. We were getting good looks, but just could not convert on any shot attempt. On defense, the Trojans came ready to play on the defensive end all night. The Trojans made the Marauders shoot contested jump shots and did not allow them to get into the paint. The Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 3 points. The Trojans were trailing the Mt. Vernon Marauders after the first quarter 6 to 3.

The second quarter the Trojans were still cold shooting the basketball, but their defense kept them in the basketball game. The Trojans were getting good shots but could not get the,m to fall. Defensively, the Trojans continued to play hard and made the Marauders shoot contested shots. The Trojans hanging tough on defense kept them in the basketball game and did not let the game get out of reach. The Trojans were led in scoring by Brandon Matney had 4 points. Trey Miller added 3 points. The Trojans were trailing at the half against the Mt. Vernon Marauders 19 to 10.

At the half, the Trojans made adjustments on both ends of the floor. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to push the basketball in transition and try to get some easy baskets before the Marauders defense could get setup. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to guard one player a little different on Mt. Vernon and other than that we did a great job the first half. On the offensive end of the floor, the Trojans were able to push the basketball up the floor and started knocking down shots. The Trojans were making the extra pass and getting great looks at the basket. Defensively, the Trojans locked down the Marauders in the third quarter. We caused them to turn the basketball over and our ball pressure cause them to shoot contested jump shots. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 9 points. Collin Blessinger added 6 points. William Grieser had 5 points. After the third quarter the Trojans were leading Marauders of Mt. Vernon 30 to 25.

The fourth quarter the Trojans started to struggle hitting shots, but they hit big free throws when we needed to. The Trojans hit a huge 3 with 2 seconds to go in the game to give us the victory. On defense, the Trojans continued to play great defense. The Trojans help the Marauders to one shot opportunity every possession. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring by Trey Miller with 5 points. Cole McDaniel had 4 points. William Grieser added 2 points. The Trojans beat the Mt. Vernon Marauders 41 to 38.

Offensively, the Trojans struggled all night shooting the basketball until the third quarter. The Trojans were getting great shots just could not get anything to fall in the first half of the game. The Trojans Trey Miller and Collin Blessiger got the Trojans going by hitting 5 3 pointers combined in the third quarter. Trey Miller hit the go ahead 3 in the fourth to give the Trojans the lead with 2 seconds left in the game. Defensively, the Trojans played good all night. The Trojans made the Marauders shoot contested jump shots, and did not let them get any baskets in transition. The Trojans protected the paint, and limited the Marauders to one and done all night long. Brandon Matney controlled the glass for the Trojans. William Griser played great defense on the Marauders best player the entire game.

The Trojans led in scoring by Trey Miller with 17 points. Cole McDaniel and William Griser both had 7 points apiece. Colling Blessinger added 6 points. Brandon Matney had 4 points.

The New Castle Trojans are 6-3 to start the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action Friday, January 10 against the Richmond Red Devils at the Tiernan Center in Richmond. The Varsity game will tip off at 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
