New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball Team beat the Rushville Lions basketball team 88 to 52. The Trojans got off to a really good start on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans moved the basketball on offense and was getting anything they wanted. Luke Bumbalough got off to a great start shooting the basketball which led for open shots for everyone else throughout the game. On defense, the Trojans started out a little out of sorts, but go it all figured out late in the first quarter. The Trojans were having trouble slowing down the big man Rushville had inside. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 13 points. Nicolas Grieser added 4 points. Blake Burris and Cole McDaniel both had 3 points apiece. The Trojans were leading the Rushville Lions after the first quarter 23 to 15.
The second quarter the Trojans continued to stay hot from the field and did a really nice job of sharing the basketball. The Trojans continued to play extremely hard on defense making the Lions work hard for any shot attempt they got. The Trojans also did a nice job of not giving the Lions any second chance opportunities. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 14 points. Nicolas Grieser added 5 points. Cole McDaniel had 3 points. The Trojans had the lead at the half over Rushville 45 to 26.
At the half, the Trojans did not make any adjustments on the offensive end but did make a few adjustments on the defensive end. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to continue to push the basketball in transition and continue to make the extra pass for great looks at the basket. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to dig in the post when Rushvilles big caught the ball down there but not over commit. We wanted to continue to make Rushville work every position down the floor and keep the basketball in front of us and do not give up lane drives. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough and Mason Hardwick both with 5 points. Blake Burris added 4 points. Nicolas Grieser added 3 points. After the third quarter the Trojans had the lead over the Lions 62 to 39.
The fourth quarter the Trojans were able to extend the lead all because we stayed locked in on the defensive end of the floor. The Trojans continued to execute offensively and we made the extra pass all night long. The Trojans only had 3 turnovers the entire basketball game. On defense, the Trojans made it hard for Rushville to get anything going on offense. We forced Rushville to turn the basketball over and made them take tough shots. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring in by Luke Bumbalough with 11 points. Cole McDaniel, Cooper Rusch, Nolan Beam all had 3 points apiece. Derek Tabor, Nicolas Grieser, and Mason Hardwick all added 2 points apiece. The Trojans beat the Rushville Lions 88 to 52.
Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of pushing the basketball in transition and finding the open guy for a great shots. The Trojans did a great job of taking care of the basketball. The Trojans made the Rushville defense work every single time down the floor. Luke Bumbalough led the way for the Trojans on the offensive end. Cole McDaniel and Mason Hardwick both hit big shots during the game. Nicolas Grieser and Blake Burris did a nice job of finding the open guys and having 5 assist apiece on the night. Defensively, the Trojans did a great job defensively the entire game. The Trojans made it hard for Rushville to get in their offense and do what they wanted. The Trojans made Rushville shoot contested jump shots and held the Lions to one shot every position. The Trojans played great team defense.
The Trojans led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 43 points. Nicolas Grieser added 14 points. Cole McDaniel had 9 points. Blake Burris and Mason Hardwick both had 7 points apiece. Nolan Beam and Cooper Rusch both had 3 points. Derek Tabor added 2 points.
The Trojans are 11-8 on the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action Saturday, February 16 against the Westfield Shamrocks at Westfield High School The Varsity game will tip at approximately 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
