New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball Team got a great victory on Friday against a very talented Richmond Red Devil team 74 to 48. The Trojans got off to a fast start on the offensive end, and made Richmond shoot contested jump shots the entire night. The Trojans moved the basketball and got whatever shots we wanted the entire night. The Trojans were led in scoring by Blake Burris with 9 points. Luke Bumbalough added 6 points. Mason Hardwick and Braden Matney each had 2 points. The Trojans were leading Richmond after the first quarter 19 to 10.
The second quarter the Trojans continued to have everything clicking on both ends of the floor. The Trojans were pushing the basketball in transition and getting whatever shots we wanted to on every possession. The Trojans followed the game plan on defense and made Richmond do things they were not comfortable doing. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 11 points. Blake Burris added 3 points and Nicolas Grieser had 2 points. The Trojans had the lead at half over the Richmond Red Devils 35 to 22.
At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments on both ends of the floor. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to continue to push the basketball in transition and make the extra pass to get great shots. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to guard a few actions differently, but continue to guard Richmonds personal how we talked about all week at practice. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 18 points. Blake Burris added 3 points. Nicolas Grieser had 2 points. After the third quarter the Trojans had the lead over the Red Devils 58 to 37.
To start the fourth quarter, the Trojans had the opportunity to get every player in the game. The subs continued to do a great job on the offensive and defensive ends. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring in by Cole McDaniel with 5 points. William Grieser added 4 points. Collin Blessinger, Blake Burris, and Luke Bumbalough all had 2 points apiece. The Trojans beat the Richmond Red Devils 73 to 48.
Offensively, the Trojans were clicking from the start of the game. The Trojans were pushing the basketball in transition and moving the basketball and literally got whatever shot they wanted to in the ball game. The Trojans were led by Luke Bumbalough who was hitting shots plus getting other players involved. Blake Burris did a nice job attacking the basket and finishing and also hitting outside shots. Defensively, the Trojans did a nice job of contesting every shot Richmond took on the night. The Trojans also limited the Red Devils to one shot opportunity every single possession. The Trojans did a great job tonight playing team defense and following the scouting report.
The Trojans led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 37 points. Blake Burris added 17 points. Cole McDaniel had 5 points. Nicolas and William Grieser both had 4 points apiece. Mason Harwick, Collin Blessinger, and Brandon Matney all had 2 points on the night.
The Trojans are 4-5 on the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action tonight, January 5 against the Connersville Spartans at the Spartan Bowl. The Varsity game will tip at approximately 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
