The New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team won in overtime on Senior Night against the Muncie Central Bearcats 63 to 57. The Trojans got off to a slow start, but were able to pick it up on both ends of the floor and win the basketball game. Offensively, the Trojans got off to a slow start offensively, but were able to find a rhythm at the end of the second quarter and in the second half. The Trojans got off to a good start in the second half to get themselves back into the basketball game. Cole McDaniel led the way for the Trojans offensively. Trey Miller stepped up and hit some big shots throughout the ballgame. Defensively, the Trojans played well defensively and executed the game plan. We made the Bearcats shoot contested jump shots and play the percentages. The Trojans got key stops when they needed to to get the victory. Deven Fielden and Gavin Welch led the way defensively leading the Trojans in rebounding and Welch got some key steals. The Trojans honored our six seniors Cole McDaniel, William Grieser, Brandon Matney, Deven Fielden, Matt Bell, and Nate Smith. We thank them for their contributions they have made on New Castle Basketball.
The Trojans led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 28 points. Trey Miller had 19 points. Deven Fielden added 6 points. Sam Maddy scored 4 points. William Grieser had 3 points. Gavin Welch added 2 points. Brandon Matney had 1 point.
The New Castle Trojans finished the regular season 7-15. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action on Friday, March 5 at the New Castle Fieldhouse to play in the Sectional Semi-Final against the Delta Eagles or the Jay County Patriots. The game will tip off at 8:00pm. Go Trojans!!!
