New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball Team lost to a very physical and talented New Palestine Dragons team Friday night. The New Palestine Dragons team beat the Trojans 84 to 59. The Trojans got off to a good start on both ends of the floor. The Trojans did a good job of mo big the basketball on the offensive end, and on the defensive end the Trojans did a good job of defending the Dragons in the first quarter. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough, Mason Hardwick, and Nicolas Grieser all had 3 points apiece. The Trojans were trailing the Dragons 15 to 9.

The second quarter the Trojans continued to work for open shots on offense and make the extra pass for open shots. The Trojans did a good job on the defensive end contesting shots and making New Palestine work for scoring opportunities. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 5 points. Nicolas Grieser had 4 points. William Grieser added 2 points. The Trojans still trailed at half against the New Palestine Dragons 27 to 20.

At the half, the Trojans made adjustments offensively and defensively. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to continue to move the basketball and get good looks, but wanted to get to the basketball to get easier looks to score the basketball. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to contain the basketball and not give up lane drives so easy. We also wanted to do a better job of clearing out space and blocking out and rebounding. The Trojans came out extremely flat and let the Dragons get whatever shot last they wanted. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 11 points. Cole McDaniel added 3 points. William Grieser had 1 point. After the third quarter the Trojans trailed the Dragons 58 to 35.

In the fourth quarter, on offense the Trojans were hitting shots, but on the defensive end the Trojans were not getting any stops. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring in by Luke Bumbalough had 9 points. Mason Hardwick had 6 points. Nicolas Grieser and Blake Burris both had 3 points. Trey Miller had 2 points and Dillion Bergum added 1 point. The Trojans got beat by the New Palestine Dragons 84 to 59.

Offensively, the Trojans did a good job of working for good shots, but Trojans shooters could not hit the shots they got. The Trojans still need to do a better job of attacking the basket and get easy baskets or get to the free throw line. Defensively, the Trojans need to do a better job of closing out and containing the basketball. The Trojans allowed the Dragons to get to the paint on dribble drives and that led to easy baskets for the Dragons. The Trojans also have to do a better job of rebounding the ball as a unit.

The Trojans led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 28 points. Nicolas Grieser had 10 points. Mason Hardwick added 9 points. Cole McDaniel, Blake Burris, and William Grieser all had 3 points apiece. Trey Miller had 2 points and Dillion Bergum added 1 point.

The Trojans are 2-4 to start the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action tomorrow, December 15 at New Castle Field House School to play the Muncie Burris Owls. The Varsity game will tip at approximately 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
