The New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team beat the Hamilton Heights Huskies 51 to 49 in the Sectional Finals. The Trojans got off to a great start on both ends of the floor and it continued throughout the game. Offensively, the Trojans were solid the entire game. The Trojans moved the basketball and made the extra pass the entire night. The Trojans hit big shots when they needed them and made plays to get the victory. Cole McDaniel, Trey Miller, and Deven Fielden all hit key shots in big moments of the game when we needed them most. Defensively, the Trojans were locked in the entire night. The Trojans made the Huskies shoot contested jump shots and held them to one shot attempt every possession. The Trojans help one of the top five scoring teams in the state to 28 points below their average on the season. Gavin Welch led the way holding one of the states leading scorers to 15 points on the night. Trey Miller and Caleb Grow held the Huskies second leading scorer scoreless on the night. The Trojans as a team played great defense and executed the scouting report. The Trojans played hard, played together, and competed every possession, and it led to a great TEAM WIN.
The Trojans led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 17 points. Trey Miller had 12 points. William Grieser added 8 points. Caleb Grow scored 5 points. Branden Matney had 4 points. Deven Fielden added 3 points. Gavin Welch scored 2 points.
The New Castle Trojans are 9-15 on the season, but 2-0 in the State Tournament. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action at 10am on Saturday, March 13 at the New Castle Fieldhouse to play the NorthWood Panthers in the Sweet 16.
