New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball team beat a sharp shooting Hamilton Heights Huskies Basketball team 55 to 52. The Trojans got off to a great start on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans got off to a hot start shooting the basketball. The Trojans did a nice job of making the extra passes and getting the ball to the open guy. On defense, the Trojans struggled to get stops, but the Huskies offense had to work hard to get shots. The Trojans did a really good job of rebounding the basketball and contesting every shot the Huskies shot even though they were hitting a lot of shots early in the game. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 11 points. Mason Hardwick added 3 points. Brandon Matney had 2 points. The Trojans were leading the Hamilton Heights Huskies after the first quarter 16 to 13.

The second quarter the Trojans continued to knock down shots on the offensive end. We kept making the extra passes and trusted our teammates to make plays. The Trojans continued to play extremely hard on defense making the Huskies work hard for any shot attempt they got. The Trojans had trouble keeping a few Huskies in front of them, but the help defenders were there to take a charge or take the lane away. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 7 points. William Grieser added 5 points. Nicolas Grieser had 2 points. The Trojans had the lead at the half over Hamilton Heights 30 to 24.

At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments on both ends of the floor. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to push the ball in transition and put certain Husky defenders in ball screens to get mismatches. The Trojans tried to follow the adjustments but could not buy a basket in the third quarter as a team. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to guard a couple players differently than we expected going into the game. The Trojans had trouble keeping the Hamilton Heights guard in front of us and failed to have help in the lane to contest his shots. The Trojans struggled on both ends of the floor in the third quarter. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Blake Burris and Nicolas Grieser both had 2 points apiece. After the third quarter the Trojans trailed the Huskies of Hamilton Heights 37 to 34.

The fourth quarter the Trojans continued to struggle offensively halfway through the fourth quarter. With about three minutes to go in the game the Trojans finally started making shots and got on a roll. The Trojans were getting great looks at the basket but just could not convert in the third and early in the fourth quarters. On defense, the Trojans continued to battle and made the Huskies work for every shot opportunity they took. The Trojans rebounded and held the Huskies to one and done the last few minutes. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring in by Luke Bumbalough with 17 points. Nicolas Grieser added 4 points. The Trojans beat the Hamilton Heights Huskies 55 to 52.

Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of moving the basketball the entire game. We made the extra pass and hit the open guys for shots. The Trojans went cold from the field for about a quarter and a half, but found a way to stay in the game to give them a shot at the end. Luke Bumbalough did his thing on the offensive end by hitting shots, driving to the basket, or making the next pass for an open shot. Bumbalough hit some huge shots in the fourth to bring the Trojans back in front of a sold out crowd at the Fieldhouse. William Grieser brought energy on both ends of the floor and got the Trojan lead extended in the second quarter by hitting a layup and got fouled and hit the free throw. Defensively, the Trojans did a really nice job most of the game. We did a good job of limiting the Huskies to one shot every possession. Besides in the third quarter and early fourth we contained the basketball and made it hard for the Hamilton Heights guards to get around us. If they did get around us were were flying to the ball and were ready to take charges. Nicolas Grieser did a great job on the glass and taking the Huskies second best player out of the game. Blake Burris did a really nice job being the vocal leader and encouraging his teammates during every timeout and in every huddle. The atmosphere in the Fieldhouse was electric. Fans standing along the track not a open seat to be found. The Trojans kept fighting and never gave up.

The Trojans led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 35 points. Nicolas Grieser added 8 points. William Grieser had 5 points. Mason Hardwick added 3 points. Brandon matney and Blake Burris both had 2 points apiece.

The Trojans are 13-10 on the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action tonight, March 2 against the Delta Eagles at the New Castle Fieldhouse. The Sectional Finals will tip off at 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
