New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball Team beat a very big Pendleton Heights Arabians basketball team 63 to 40. The Trojans got off to a slow start on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans could not buy a basket to start the game. The Arabians came out and played a box in one on Bumbalough and it took the Trojans a quarter to get going. On defense, the Trojans did a great job of making Pendleton work for everything they got on the offensive end. The Trojans contained the basketball and made Pendleton hit contested jump shots. The Trojans were led in scoring by Nicolas Grieser with 4 points. The Trojans trailed to the Arabians after the first quarter 12 to 4.

The second quarter the Trojans started to knock down open shots and get whatever they wanted every time down the floor. The Trojans did a good job of making the extra pass the entire game. The Trojans continued to play extremely hard on defense making the Arabians work hard for any shot attempt they took. The Trojans also did a very good job rebounding the basketball as a team. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 8 points. Mason hardwick added 3 points. William Grieser had 2 points and Collin Blessinger added 1 point. The Trojans were trailing at the half against the Pendleton Heights Arabians 20 to 18.

At the half, the Trojans made a few adjustments on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Offensively, the Trojans wanted to continue to push the basketball in transition and continue to make the extra pass for great looks at the basket. The one thing we wanted to do differently was how we attacked the box and one. We talked about getting the ball to the middle of the floor and then attacking. Defensively, the Trojans wanted to dig in the post when Pendleton’s big caught the ball down there but not over commit. We wanted to continue to make Pendleton work every position down the floor and keep the basketball in front of us and do not give up lane drives. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 9 points. Blake Burris added 7 points. Cole McDaniel had 5 points. Mason Hardwick added 3 points. After the third quarter the Trojans had the lead over the Arabians 42 to 30.

The fourth quarter the Trojans were able to extend the lead all because we stayed locked in on the defensive end of the floor. The Trojans continued to execute offensively and we made the extra pass all night long and in the second half we started to get shots to fall. On defense, the Trojans made it hard for Pendleton to do anything on the offensive end of the floor. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring in by Luke Bumbalough with 13 points. Nicolas Grieser added 4 points. Nolan Beam and Blake Burris both had 2 points apiece. The Trojans beat the Pendleton Heights Arabians 63 to 40.

Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of pushing the basketball in transition and finding the open guy for a great shots. The Trojans did a great job of taking care of the basketball. The Trojans made the Pendleton defense work every single time down the floor. Luke Bumbalough led the way for the Trojans on the offensive end. Cole McDaniel, Mason Hardwick, and Blake Burris all hit big shots during the game. Nicolas Grieser did a nice job of finding the open guy and having 8 assist on the night. Defensively, the Trojans did a great job defensively the entire game. The Trojans made it hard for Pendleton to get in their offense and do what they wanted. The Trojans made Pendleton shoot contested jump shots and held the Arabians to one shot every position. The Trojans played great team defense.

The Trojans led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough with 30 points. Blake Burris had 9 points. Nicolas Grieser added 8 points. Mason Hardwick had 6 points and Cole McDaniel had 5 points. Nolan Beam and William Grieser both had 2 points. Collin Blessinger added 1 point.

The Trojans are 10-8 on the season. The New Castle Trojans will be back in action Friday, February 15 against the Rushville Lions at the New Castle Fieldhouse. The Varsity game will tip at approximately 7:30pm. Go Trojans!!!
