In what should serve as a wake up call to our boys, Pendleton came to Neal Field and dismantled the Trojans 49-14. Pendleton took it to us early and often, as we were down 21-0, 10 minutes into the game. NC put together a drive as Drew Barber found Triston Chesher for a 67 yard completion down to the Pendleton 2 yard line. 2 plays later, Barber hit Nicholas Grieser on a corner route and Skylor Stevenson hit the PAT to cut Pendleton’s lead to 21-7. PH answered with a TD of their own and after 1 it was 28-7.
NC had the ball and went for it on 4th down unsuccessfully to start the second quarter and PH quickly scored again on a reverse to move up 35-7. NC struggled offensively all night getting the ball moving, but after a punt by NC, PH turned it over on downs after huge sacks by Dylan Beck and Trenton Williams. NC moved the ball down the field but PH strip sacked Barber and the half ended at 35-7.
NC came out with fire to start the second half, scoring in just 2 plays. Barber hit Dakota Durick on a 13 yard swing pass and then Bumbalough over the middle as Luke out ran everyone for a 67 yard TD. Stevenson was good and it was 35-14. NC pooched the kickoff over the front line and Bumbalough knocked the ball and Gavin Ridge recovered as NC was in business with the ball in PH territory threatening. On the next play, Barber was sacked and fumbled and the momentum was thwarted. PH scored on the ensuing possession to go up 42-14 and added a TD in the 4th for the final of 49-14.
Offensively for NC, Barber was 14-35 for 248 yards and 2 TDs. William Grieser was also 3-6 for 52 yards and 1 int. Bumbalough led the receivers with 4 catches for 118 yards and 1 TD. Chesher caught 3 for 84, Ragle 4 for 24, Nicholas Grieser 2 for 10 and a TD. Cooper Rusch had 2 catches for 43 yards from W. Grieser and Jack Criswell 1 for 9. W. Grieser ran once for 19 yards.
Defensively, Nicholas Grieser had 16 total tackles, Dylan Beck 11 and a sack, Stephen Spears 7, Trenton Williams, Mason Hardwick, and Colin Holcomb all had 6. Williams had 2 sacks and Hardwick a beautifully read interception.
New Castle moves to 2-1 on the year and travels to Shelbyville next Friday night, with kickoff at 7:30. These boys will learn and be ready to play and get their 3rd win on the season.
