The New Castle girls swim team placed 8th as a team in the Hoosier Heritage Conference swim meet Saturday afternoon. Greenfield Central won the meet, followed closely by Pendleton Heights. The Trojans swam well throughout the day and had a few girls score points for the team. Individually, Lylah Hutson led the way for the Trojans with a 3rd place finish in the 500 Freestyle, and a 6th place finish in the 200 Freestyle. Caitlin Shunneson placed 10th in the diving event, and Payton Plank had a 16th place finish in the 100 Breaststroke. In the relays, the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Hutson, Shunneson, Rylan Blessinger, and Plank finished 7th. The 200 Medley Relay team of Hutson, Bailey Smith, Blessinger, and Plank, and the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Mackenzie Smoot, Karina Lee, Hannah Hamacher, and Smith, both placed 8th.

The coaches were really happy with how we swam. We rested a little bit for conference, and the girls had some really good times. There are 4 weeks left before sectionals, so our concentration turns to that. I’m really looking forward to the preparation for sectionals and finishing the year strong.
