The New Castle girls swam Richmond last night and had a good showing. The girls were led by Lylah Hutson, winning the 100 Breaststroke and placing 2nd in the 50 Freestyle. Caitlin Shunneson won diving, Mackenzie Smoot was 3rd in the 100 Backstroke, and Payton Plank was 3rd in the 200 IM. The 200 Free Relay team of Hutson, Shunneson, Rylan Blessinger, and Plank, and the 400 Free Relay team of Karina Lee, Baylee Rigney, Hannah Hamacher, and Bailey Smith both placed 2nd on the evening!
We may not have had the best night in the pool, but I could not have been more proud of my swimmers. We demonstrated what makes this team one of my favorites I’ve coached. After the events that happened in Richmond last Thursday, one of my swimmers, Payton Plank, reached out to me to see if we could do something for them last night. We talked and decided to make some signs and she made green ribbons (Dennis Middle School’s school color). All of my athletes wanted to be a part of it showing a great deal of caring and support for our friends in Richmond. Little did we know it was “Green Day” in Richmond for the school, so our timing couldn’t have been better! They have been through a lot and we wanted to show our support for them. I have told a lot of people that I really like this group of kids, and on Tuesday they showed a lot of why I think this group is so special.
