New Castle High School 1st 29

Richmond showed strong front running, taking the top two spots, but NC showed great depth despite not having their number one runner. Shelbi Bolser took first individually for Richmond. The depth and tactical pacing enabled the Trojans to over take the Red Devils in the second half of the race. Led by Lydia Harvey in third, the Green-and-White packed it in with their top five finishing within 44 seconds of one another. That pack included Emily Grow, Emma Hart, Sakagewea Watson, and Mireya Guerrero in 5th through 8th respectively. Chloe Vitatoe and Kaitlyn Crabtree also played a role in the victory by placing ahead of Richmond’s fifth and final scoring member (as well as ahead of Shenandoah’s third finisher. The score was New Castle 29, Richmond 37, and the Raiders’ 69.
All team members improved their times for the home course. Congratulations to all of those runners. Running their Personal Bests for the season were a slew of runners as well. Those included Grow, Audra Cornett, Warson, Crabtree, Vitatoe, Sydney Matthews, Sylvie Terrell, Corinne Harvey, Gracie Carter, and Addie McGowan. Coach Dye was pleased to see so many girls running smarter races as they are learning to both pace themselves better and push themselves more in the middle section of the race. “Our girls running as teammates and friends helped us win this evening. I loved seeing both the comraderie and the competitiveness of our girls this evening. So many had fantastic runs It’s difficult to name them all, but Emily, Sakagewea, Sydney, Sylvie, Corinne, Gracie, and Addie should be very excited about their performances. Hopefully tonight gave all the runners a feeling that they can handle this very tough course now.
