Girls Middle School Cross Country · Girls Middle School Cross Country finishes 1st place at Delta Middle School

  Place Points
New Castle High School 1st 25

In their first meet of the season, the NC middle school girls defeated both Hhc Conference opponents , Delta and Yorktown. Delta, led by last year’s state champion Nikki Southerland, looked strong early on and did end up taking first and second place individually. But the Trojans had an incredible pack that worked its way up by mid race and took the third through seventh spots overall. In order of finish placings, that pack included Corinne Harvey (with a personal record by over two minutes), Mireya Guerrero, Kaitlyn Crabtree, Anya Amman(in her first ever xc race), and Chloe Vitatoe. Those five scores secured the victory, but Audra Cornett finished ahead of Delta’s fourth and fifth runners to increase the margin of victory. The scores ended with NC 25, Delta 35 and Yorktown 68. Sydney Mathews also helped push up Yorktown’s score, finishing in 14th, ahead of Yorktown’s number two runner. While not in the team scoring, Sylvie Terrell had an excellent race, finishing ahead of Yorktown’s 3rd finisher. Congratulations to all the team members on the victory and for all of the first time finishers.
