The girls cross country team reversed the score of the boys loss, defeating the Red Devils on the same hilly paved course. Corinne Harvey ran a tactical race, pacing a little behind the lead Richmond runner until the final half mile where Harvey made a strong move into first. The Richmond runner could not respond, and Harvey went on to set a personal best by 51 seconds. The Richmond runner held on for second. Then came NC runners in third through sixth, each running their best time of the year. That group included Mireya Guerrero, Anya Amman, Kaitlyn Crabtree, and Chloe Vitatoe. Audra Cornette, Sydney Matthews, and Sylvie Terrell finished close together in tenth through twelfth , also setting personal records. In addition to Harvey’s impressive drop in time, Guerrero, Vitatoe,, Cornette, Terrell, Maritza Mil, Lauren Watterson, Lily Farmer, Mackenzie Foga, and Laci Southerland. all dropped twenty seconds or more. Vitatoe dropped 39 seconds from her season best and 26 seconds under last year’s best. Foga’ dropped 40 and Farmer 52 seconds. Lauren Watterson, in her third year with the team, sliced 58 seconds off her season best and dropped 11 seconds off her Personal record of a year ago. Maria Mil had a personal best as well. Maritza Mil has improved each of her three meets while Matthews and Amman have improved in each of their four meets.
The team is now 6 and 1 for the season. The girls will face off with Centerville and Connersville at Baker Park next Thursday, scheduled to run at 5 PM.
