The New Castle boys swim team placed 2nd out of 5 teams in the Centerville Invitational on Saturday morning. Andrew Lacey led the way for the Trojans with a pair of 2nd place finishes in the 200 Individual Medley and the 500 Freestyle. In one of the most exciting races of the day, Lacey was just barely out-touched for first by .22 of a second, at the wall, in the 500. Jackson Criswell also picked up a strong 2nd place finish in the 50 Freestyle. Aidan Sipes added another top 2 finish for the Trojans with a 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke. Ben Hall and Connor Griffey each picked up 3rd place finishes in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke respectively. The Trojans relays all had a strong showing, placing 2nd in all relays behind the invitational champion East Central. The Medley Relay team was made up of Griffey, Sipes, Hall, and Criswell. The 200 Freestyle Relay team was Griffey, Sipes, Dominique Strunk, and Criswell, and the 400 Freestyle Relay team was Criswell, Lacey, Griffey, and Hall.
Overall, the Trojans swam really well. We had a lot of best times on Saturday. I put the boys in some of their sectional events, and also had some competition for spots at sectionals going on. All the boys swam their best with where they are at in training, and we will be ready to go for boys sectional. I’m excited to see how we can finish out the year.
