On a very messy field in Portland, due to several days of continuous rain, the New Castle High School boys varsity soccer team beat the Jay County Patriots 4-2. With footing coming at a premium, New Castle got the scoring started in the 14th minute, when Scott Loveless converted a penalty kick after a handball inside the Patriot’s penalty area during a shot by Austin Morgan. The next goal was scored by Skylor Stevenson, in the 29th minute, after he took the ball around the edge on the right flank and slotted the ball past the keeper. After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, the Trojans got the scoring going again in the 69th minute when Eddy Yousak converted a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. After giving up 2 goals to Jay County within a minute, the last goal was scored for the Trojans by Stevenson in the 86th minute when he converted a penalty kick, after yet another handball by a Jay County defender. Andrew Glover finished the match with 5 saves. The Trojan boys moved their record to 6-3-1. The busy schedule for the boys continues tomorrow when they host the Muncie Burris Owls.
