On a cool, brisk evening at Mt Vernon, New Castle’s boys of fall came up short, losing 43-16 to the Marauders. New Castle received the kickoff and moved the ball, getting 2 first downs before having to punt. MV took 6 minutes off the clock, but could only get a fg, taking the lead 3-0. NC went 3 and out, and MV was on the move when the first quarter ended.

On the first play of the second quarter, MV scored a TD, but the 2 point conversion was no good, and it was 9-0. NC finally got going offensively, but could not get the ball in the end zone, settling for a Skylor Stevenson 21 yard FG to cut the lead to 9-3. MV responded quickly with TD march but missed the 2 point conversion again and it was 15-3. NC threw a pick on the next series that bounced off of Luke Bumbalough’s hands into the hands of a defender. NC’s defense stood up and forced a punt, which MV faked, but Brayden Miller stopped the fake with a Tackle for Loss. NC responded as Drew Barber found Luke Bumbalough for a 23 yard TD and Stevenson added the PAT to cut the lead to 15-10. MV got the ball and on 3rd and 21 threw an incomplete pass, but the ref threw a flag for roughing the qb, which was a bad call. It should have been 4th and 21, but MV got a first down on the penalty and scored on the next play with 1 minute left in the half. They hit the PAT and it was 22-10 at half.

NC held MV on the first possession of the 3rd quarter forcing a punt after Dylan Beck had a tackle for loss. NC threw an interception on their possession and MV scored quickly to make it 29-10. NC got the ball back and threw another INT. MV was moving as the quarter ended.

MV had to punt at the start of the 4th quarter. NC got possesion, but MV had another Interception, this one they returned for a TD to go up 36-10. NC had to punt on the next series and so did MV on theirs. NC threw another pick 6 to make the score 43-10 with 4 min left. William Grieser came in and led a TD drive, capped off with a 8 yard pass to Tytus Ragle, but the 2 point conversion was no good and the final was 43-16.

Offensively for NC, Barber was 19-46 for 200 yards, 1 TD and 5 Int. W. Grieser was 6-7 for 54 yards and 1 TD. Bumbalough had 7 catches for 96 yards and the TD, Nicholas Grieser had 8 catches for 60 yards, Triston Chesher 5 for 67 yards, Ragle 3 for 13 yards and the TD, and Dakota Durick 2 for 12 yards. Gage Burk ran for 42 yards on 9 carries, and W Grieser had one rush for 14 yards.

Defensively, Nicholas Grieser led the way with 17 total tackles and 2 passes defended, Beck had 13 tackles, a sack, and a tfl, Stephen Spears had 11 tackles, and Trenton Williams 10 tackles and 2 qb hurries. Gavin Ridge had an interception.

NC moves to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the HHC with 5A #1 New Pal coming to Neal Field next week for the last home regular season game. Gametime is 7:30. Thanks to the fans that travelled to MV and supported our Trojans.
