On Senior Night at New Castle, the Trojans didn’t show up until the second half and lost to Delta 49-14. It was 35-0 at half before the Trojans started to play. Delta scored on 7 of their 8 possessions in the game, and NC’s offense couldn’t muster much until after halftime.
NC came out of halftime and scored on a Drew Barber to Luke Bumbalough 8 yard TD pass and Skylor Stevenson’s extra point was good as NC cut the lead to 35-7. Gage Burk was a workhorse on the drive getting the Trojans moving. Delta scored again, but NC answered with their longest timed drive of the year, taking 6 minutes and 36 seconds of clock. The drive culminated when Barber hit Nicholas Grieser with a 3 yard TD pass and it was 42-14. Delta took almost 8 minutes on their last TD drive of the game, making the final 49-14.
For NC on offense, Barber was 14-29 for 116 yards, 2 TDs and 1 Interception. Bumbalough had 8 catches for 63 yards and the TD, Triston Chesher had 4 catches for 34 yards, Cooper Rusch 1 catch for 6 yards, and Grieser 1 for 3 and the TD. Burk ran hard and well, rushing for 70 yards on 12 carries.
Defensively, NC was on the field a lot and struggled stopping Delta’s running game. Grieser and Stephen Spears both had 15 total tackles and Dylan Beck added 10. Trenton Williams had 8 total tackles, sack, and a qb hurry, where he was inches from sacking Delta’s qb. Colin Holcomb added 8 tackles.
NC moves to 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in the HHC. We travel to Mt Vernon next Friday night for a 7:30 kickoff against the Marauders. We celebrated 18 seniors before the game tonight, one of the largest classes in a long time. We want to thank them for what they have meant to the program. Bumbalough, Burk, Chesher, Grieser, Spears, Williams, Hardwick, Barber, Miller, Kundert, Chandler Marcum, Chase Marcum, Webb, Raynor, Thompson, Holcomb, Ridge, and Tran are names that will forever be associated with the rebirth and rebuild of New Castle Trojan football. The school and the NC community are proud of you all.
