New Castle traveled to Rushville and tamed the Lions on Friday 39-2, in a game dominated by the Trojans. NC took the opening kick and marched down the field, scoring on a Tytus Ragle 12 yard TD run. Skyler Stevenson’s extra point was no good and NC led 6-0. In a sign of things to come, NC’s defense forced a 3 and out. NC moved the ball again and Ragle punched it in from 4 yards out. Stevenson connected on the PAT and it was 13-0 NC. The mean green D forced another 3 and out and NC took over and started marching. Ragle ran for 32 and 11 yards on the drive, and the quarter ended with NC on the RHS 1 yard line.

On the first play of the second quarter, QB William Grieser snuck it over for the TD, but the 2 point conversion wasn’t good and NC led 19-0. Rushville actually moved the ball on the next drive, eating up 7 minutes of clock, but the defense stood up and forced a turnover on downs. NC took the ball and with Grieser hitting Cooper Rusch for 30 yards on 3rd and 9, NC was in business. 2 plays later, Grieser found Brandon Matney for a 27 yard TD pass. The PAT was no good and at the half it was NC 25 Rushville 0.

The third quarter saw the defense again take over as Rushville moved the ball, but couldn’t convert on 4th down. NC had to punt, and Rushville was moving when D Ray Ford punched the ball out and Garrett Lenz recovered it to give NC the ball. The quarter ended with no scoring.

The 4th quarter, RHS once again turned it over on 4th down, NC had to punt after a 3 and out, and Rushville had to punt again also. This time, Trenton Round broke through and blocked the punt as Jack Taylor recovered, giving NC the ball at the RHS 10 yard line. 3 plays later, Ragle once again scored from 5 yards out and Stevenson hit the PAT, giving NC a 32-0 lead. RHS had to punt, and NC had the ball deep in their territory when a bad snap caused a safety, giving RHS their 2 points with 2 min left. Rushville then received the free kick and tried to run the ball. Jack Taylor punched the ball loose and Dylan Beck recovered and drug defenders 39 yards for the TD, making the final NC 39- RHS 2.

Offensively for NC, Grieser was 12-18 for 134 yards, 1 TD passing, also adding a rushing TD. Tytus Ragle gave the Trojans a running threat, toting the rock 13 times for 101 yards and 3 TDs. Dakota Durick had a fine all around game in his first game back, rushing for 22 yards and having 4 catches for 42 yards. Brandon Matney had 2 catches for 38 yards and 1 TD, Cooper Rusch 2 catches for 31 yards, and Kyle Gabbard 3 catches for 19 yards.

Defensively, the linebackers are our attackers and they all proved it tonight. Jack Taylor had a game, recording 22 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, a forced fumble, and a recovery. Matt Bell had 18 tackles and a forced fumble, and Dylan Beck had 17 tackles and a fumble recovery for a TD. D Ray Ford brought it off the edge, collecting 9 tackles, a sack, forced fumble, and a tackle for loss. Garett Lenz had a fumble recovery, and Trenton Round blocked a punt. The DB’s of Jace Logston, Lane Nicholson, Jordan Paige, and Tytus Ragle didn’t allow RHS to complete passes with any regularity. For all intents and purposes, this game was a shout out for the Mean Green D.

NC moves to 1-1 on the season and travels to Pendleton next week for a 7:30 game. Thanks to all the fans who traveled to Rushville tonight as we were well represented. See you next week at Pendleton for our first HHC conference game.
