New Castle traveled to Carmel on Saturday night and were beaten 57-27 by the Greyhounds. NC was down 18-0 at the start of the game before Caleb Grow hit a 3 pointer to finally get the Teoja s on the board. Carmel’s pressure gave the Trojans problems with point guard William Grieser out with a broken toe, creating turnovers to get the lead. Grow hit a shot and was fouled also and completed the 3 point play. At the end of 1, it was 21-6.
Second quarter wasn’t much better as Carmel’s size and strength continued to stymie the Trojans offensively. At halftime it was 32-11. In the second quarter, Deven Fielden hit a 3 and Colin Blessinger a 2.
At halftime, we talked about not giving up, keep playing hard and fighting the second half. We did fight, but Carmel is very good and holds opponents way below their offensive average for a reason. At the end of 3, it was 51-19. In the 3rd, Fielden hit 2 more 3’s and Cole McDaniel a 2. Deven was aggressive looking for his shot and played well.
In the 4th, Carmel subbed and we kept up with them, actually outscoring them 8-6 in the quarter, with McDaniel having 5 and senior Michael Holmes hitting a 3. Carmel won by a score of 57-27.
For NC, Fielden led with 9 points, McDaniel had 7, Grow 6, Holmes 3, and Blessinger 2.
NC is back in action Tuesday, February 11th against Hamilton Southeasten. This is another really good team coming in to the Fieldhouse and we are looking forward to competing. GO TROJANS!
