New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball Team got their twenty-fourth win in the Sectional Semi-Finals against the Muncie Burris Owls.

The Trojans got off to a sloppy started but still had a comfortable lead at the end of the first quarter. On the defensive end the Trojans did not bring great energy in the first quarter, but the Owls struggled to score the basketball. Offensively, the Trojans got any shot they wanted whenever they wanted. The Trojans were led in scoring by Mason Gillis who had 9 points. Niah Williamson had 8 points. At the end of the first quarter the Trojans were leading the Muncie Burris Owls 17 to 10.

The second quarter the Trojans came out and had great ball pressure to start the second quarter and played a 1-3-1 zone. The 1-3-1 caused the Owls trouble and forced them to have multiple turnovers. Offensively, the Trojans pushed the basketball up the floor and was getting any shot they wanted. The Trojans were led in scoring by Luke Bumbalough had 10 points. Niah Williamson had 6 points. Mason Gillis added 4 points. Bryce Huntley and Blake Burris both had 2 points apiece. The Trojans had the lead going into halftime over the Owls 41 to 18.

At the half, the Trojans did not make many adjustments, but wanted to get off to a fast start so we could get our guys some rest for the Sectional Championship game tonight. The Trojans continued to move the basketball and get any shot we wanted on the offensive end. Defensively, the Trojans stayed in the 1-3-1 zone and held the Owls to just 3 points in the third quarter. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Niah Williamson with 6 points. Luke Bumbalough had 5 points. Bryce Huntley and Mason Gillis each had 4 points. After the third quarter the Trojans were leading the Owls 60 to 21.

To start the fourth quarter, the Trojans had the opportunity to get every player in the game and they did not skip a beat. On offense the Trojans continued to make the extra pass and knock down shots. Defensively, the Trojans went back to man and the Owls struggled to score the basketball. The Trojans in the fourth quarter were led in scoring in by Rylan Huntley with 6 points. Wes Chamberlin added 4 points. Matt Dickerson had 3 points. Mason Hardwick and Nolan Beam had 2 points apiece. The Trojans beat the Owls of Muncie Burris 77 to 36.

Offensively, the Trojans did a great job of pushing the basketball in transition and taking what Muncie Burris gave us. The Trojans made the extra pass and we knocked down shots. The Trojans also attacked the basket and shot 21 free throws on the night and hit 18 of them. To make a deep tournament run you have to knock down your free throws at a high percentage. Niah Williamson was hot from the outside hitting 4 three pointers. Bryce Huntley did a nice job of coming in and hitting a few shots and made some nice passes. Rylan Huntley came in off the bench and played really had and had two and one drives to the basket. Luke Bumbalough had 8 assist on the night. Defensively, the Trojans had good ball pressure and caused the Owls to have double digit turnovers. The Owls had trouble against our 1-3-1 because we trapped them and they had trouble handling that pressure. Mason Gillis had 12 rebounds on the night. Nicolas Grieser and Mason Hardwick each had multiple steals on the night.

The Trojans led in scoring by Niah Williamson with 20 points. Mason Gillis followed with 17 points. Luke Bumbalough added 15 points. Bryce and Rylan Huntley both had 6 points. Wes Chamberlin contributed 4 points. Matt Dickerson had 3 points. Blake Burris, Mason Hardwick, and Nolan Beam all had 2 points apiece.

The 24-2 Trojans will play in the Sectional Finals tonight, March 3 at the New Castle Fieldhouse against the Delta Eagles. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. Go Trojans!!!
