New Castle Varsity Boys Basketball Team got their third win of the season at home against a very talented Anderson Indians basketball team 72 to 64. The Trojans got out to an early lead and never looked back. In the first quarter, the Trojans made it hard for the Indians to dribble, drive and made them hit contested outside jump shots. The Trojans were led in scoring by the sharp shooting Niah Williamson with 10 points. Mason Gillis added 4 points. Luke Bumbalough and Blake Burris both added 2 points. At the end of the first quarter the Trojans led the Indians 18 to 14.

The second quarter the Trojans settled down and started moving the basketball and making the extra pass. The Trojans could not miss in the second quarter and defensively the Trojans locked down and limited the second chance opportunities. In the second quarter, the Trojans were led by Luke Bumbalough who could not be guarded by one defender, so they started bring two guys at him every time he touched the ball. Luke still did not let that slow him down and added 10 points in the second quarter. Mason Gillis continued to attack the basket and get to the free throw line. Mason had 8 points. Offensively, the Trojans did a really nice job at handling Anderson’s full court pressure man-to-man defense. The Indians tried to double team Bumbalough to get the basketball out of his hands, but we had other guys step up and handle the basketball. The Trojans pushed the basketball and found the open guy for shots. The Trojans had another great night from the free throw line. Defensively, the Trojans played solid pack line defense and contested the shots of shooters from Anderson. Anderson had a few guys get hot and hit shots, so the Trojans adjusted defenses at times to try to get them to think and force them to make tough decisions with the basketball. The Trojans caused closed to 20 turnovers on the Indians. The Trojans did a nice job at bending but not breaking against the Indians. Anderson caused the Trojans to do some different things and our guys adjusted and made plays.
