Even though New Castle Trojans Varsity gave up four runs in the first inning, they still defeated Richmond 12-5 on Saturday. Richmond offense in the inning was led by Mikey Vance and Gabe Crowe, who all drove in runs.
Richmond got on the board in the first inning when Vance drew a walk, scoring one run.
New Castle Trojans Varsity pulled away for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third Colin Holcomb doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Rylan Huntley doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, Drew Barber singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Nic Besecker doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
New Castle Trojans Varsity scored five runs in the seventh inning. New Castle Trojans Varsity big bats were led by Dakota Durick, Triston Chesher, Blake McKown, and Cole McDaniel, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Huntley earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for New Castle Trojans Varsity. He allowed six hits and five runs over six and a third innings, striking out three. Logan Cline threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Brice Brown took the loss for Richmond. He lasted six innings, allowing eight hits and ten runs while striking out five.
New Castle Trojans Varsity tallied nine hits in the game. Barber and Durick all collected multiple hits for New Castle Trojans Varsity. Durick and Barber each collected two hits to lead New Castle Trojans Varsity.
Josiah Sizemore went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Richmond in hits.
