An early lead helped New Castle Trojans Varsity defeat Richmond 10-5 on Saturday. New Castle Trojans Varsity scored on a sacrifice fly by Dakota Durick in the first inning and a single by Durick in the second inning.
New Castle Trojans Varsity took the lead for good with two runs in the second inning. In the second Durick singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
New Castle Trojans Varsity put up three runs in the sixth inning. New Castle Trojans Varsity put the pressure on, lead by a single by Corbin Malott, a fielder’s choice by Blake McKown, and an error on a ball put in play by Triston Chesher.
Nic Besecker pitched New Castle Trojans Varsity to victory. He lasted six innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out ten and walking one. Logan Cline threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Josiah Sizemore took the loss for Richmond. He lasted three innings, allowing six hits and six runs while striking out two.
New Castle Trojans Varsity racked up 13 hits. Jacob Lucas, Drew Barber, Durick, Chesher, and Malott all had multiple hits for New Castle Trojans Varsity. Lucas led New Castle Trojans Varsity with three hits in five at bats.
Richmond collected eight hits on the day. Gabe Crowe and Mikey Vance each racked up multiple hits for Richmond.
