New Castle JV Boys Basketball Team lost tough game against the Hamilton Southeastern Royals 48 to 45. The Trojans got off to a good start. The Trojans played good man to man defense in the first quarter and made Hamilton Southeastern take tough contested shots. The Trojans had a few to many turnovers in the first quarter which led to 7 points for the Royals. In the first quarter, scoring for the Trojans were Cole McDaniel with 5 points. Michael Holmes had 3 points.
The second quarter the Trojans did not play well and had trouble taking care of the basketball. The Trojans defense started letting the Royals face cut us and did not have good help side defense. The Trojans were led in scoring by Sam Lowe with 4 points. Logan Hinton and Michael Holmes both had 3 points. At the end of the second quarter the Trojans trailed the Royals 28 to 18.
At the half, the Trojans made a few offensive and defensive adjustments. Offensively, the Trojans took care of the basketball and moved the ball and got any shot we wanted. Defensively, the Trojans picked up the ball pressure and forced the Royals to shoot tough shots. The Trojans rebounded the basketball and only let the Royals have one shot every possession. Michael Holmes led the Trojans in scoring with 9 points. Logan Hinton added 3 points and William Grieser had 2 points. At the end of the third quarter the Trojans trailed the Royals 32 to 44.
To start the fourth quarter the Trojans played extremely hard and battled back in the game with the Royals. The young Trojans showed a lot of fight and had a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter. The Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 6 points. Logan Hinton added 4 points. William Grieser had 3 points. The Trojans lost to the Royals of Hamilton Southeastern with a final score of 48 to 45.
Offensively, the Trojans had trouble taking care of the basketball early but figured it out. The Trojans moved the basketball and made the extra pass all night and we knocked down open shots. William Griser had 9 assist on the night. Michael Holmes did a great job at having his feet ready to knock down shots all night long. Defensively, the Trojans had one bad quarter, but I could not be prouder of the way my team battled against a bigger basketball team. The Trojans competed and played hard and that is all a coach could ask for. The Trojans had great ball pressure and help side defense the second half something we have been stressing and working on for the past month. Brandon Matney was a animal on the glass and pulled down 8 rebounds.
The Trojans were led in scoring by Michael Holmes with 15 points. Cole McDaniel had 11 points. Logan Hinton had 10 points. William Grieser added 5 points and Sam Lowe 4 points.
The Trojans are 10-7 and will be in action again Thursday, February 8 at the New Castle Fieldhouse against the Hamilton Delta Eagles. The JV tip is at 6 p.m. Go Trojans!!!
