New Castle JV Boys Basketball Team got their eleventh win of the season with an impressive victory over the Delta Eagles 64 to 33. The Trojans got off to a sluggish start against the Eagles and was trailing at the end of the first quarter 14 to 12. The Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 6 points. William Grieser had 4 points. Logan Hinton added 2 points.
The second quarter the Trojans came out and picked up the ball pressure on defense and started pressing the Eagles. In result, this forced the Eagles into turnovers that led to layups and open shots for the Trojans. In the second quarter, the Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 9 points. Sam Lowe had 6 points. Logan Hinton and Dakota Durick had 2 points apiece. At the end of the second quarter the Trojans led the Eagles 31 to 20.
At the half, the Trojans made a few defensive adjustments by pressing full court, trapping certain players, and this forced the Eagles into multiple turnovers. The multiple turnovers gave Trojans fast break opportunities, uncontested jump shots or layups. In the third quarter the Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 8 points. William Grieser had 6 points. Sam Lowe and Jack Hawrot both had 2 points apiece. After the third quarter the Trojans led over the Eagles 49 to 29.
To start the fourth quarter the Trojans kept playing hard and sharing the basketball. The Trojans were balanced in scoring in the fourth quarter. Cooper Rusch led all scorers with 5 points. Jack Hawrot had 4 points. Michael Holmes, Sam Lowe, and Collin Blessinger all had 2 points apiece. The Trojans beat the Eagles with a final score of 64 to 33.
Offensively, the Trojans did a great job at sharing the basketball and taking what the defense gave them. The Trojan defense led to good offense. The Trojans forced the Eagles into multiple turnovers and led to easy baskets for the Trojans. Cole McDaniel was on fire and just took what the defense gave him. William Grieser and Sam Lowe did a nice job attacking the rim and drawing fouls. Cooper Rusch and Jack Hawrot came in and gave the Trojans good minutes by knocking down shots and playing hard. Defensively, the Trojans played extremely hard and got their hand on multiple passes the Eagles threw. That led to the Trojans forcing the Eagles into twenty turnovers for the game. Logan Hinton and Dakota Durick did a great job of deflecting passes that led to Trojans steals.
The Trojans were led in scoring by Cole McDaniel with 23 points. Sam Lowe and William Grieser followed with 10 points apiece. Jack Hawrot had 6 points. Cooper Rusch added 5 points. Logan Hinton had 4 points. Michael Holmes, Dakota Durick, and Collin Blessinger all had 2 points.
The Trojans are 11-7 and will be in action again Tuesday, February 13 at Pendleton Heights High School to face the Pendleton Heights Arabians. The JV tip is at 6 p.m. Go Trojans!!!
