Game Recap

The New Castle Lady Trojans pulled out a hard-fought, 42-41 overtime victory at conference rival Delta Saturday night. It was the Lady Trojans’ second win in as many nights, and it moves their overall record to 3-4 (1-1 in the HHC).
After an impressive 10-1 first quarter start, the Lady Trojans led most of the way before falling behind early in the fourth quarter. They trailed by as many as 3 points in the fourth quarter, but Sophomore Cloie York hit a runner in the lane with 1:17 left to tie the game at 32. Neither team would score for the remainder of regulation.
In overtime, Senior MacKayla Huckeby hit a free throw early on to put the Lady Trojans up 33-32, but Delta answered back to take the lead at 34-33. On the very next possession, Junior Cameron Tabor found Junior “Peanut” Semler in the corner for a huge 3-pointer to take the lead at 36-34…a lead they would not relinquish. Senior Haylie Graham made a big basket to put the Trojans up 4 points, and Tabor was 4-4 from the line in overtime to give the Trojans their final mark of 42 points. Delta did have a chance to tie it at the free throw line with 1.1 second left, but they missed the first, made the second, and the Lady Trojans got the ball inbounded quickly and ran out the clock before Delta had a chance to foul again.
Cameron Tabor led the Lady Trojans with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. She has now scored 20 or more points in each of the first 7 games of the season. Cloie York, Haylie Graham, and Sophomore Megan Mills each contributed 4 points, while MacKayla Huckeby had an impressive 7 offensive rebounds.
