The Trojans concluded the regular season with a 1-0 loss to Franklin on senior night. The Grizzly Cubs jumped out to an early lead that they never relinquished, despite several great scoring attempts by the Trojans.

New Castle finishes the regular season 8-6-1 (3-4), The Trojans will open sectional play Monday when they take on the host Rushville Lions at 6:00 PM

Meet Recap

The New Castle boys cross country team competed at the Delta “Eagle” Invitational held at the Muncie SportsPlex. The Trojans raced in the Large School Division and placed 4th out of 13 teams with 158 points. Indianapolis Cathedral won the overall race with 32 points. The top Trojan to finish was sophomore Jeff Melton who placed 19th with a personal best time of 17:25. Also running for New Castle was senior Justin Burkholder (24th), junior Bronson Dye (34th), freshman Trevor Ragle (38th), sophomore Chris Graham (43rd), senior Patrick Calvert (45th) and sophomore Tyler Vance (52nd).

In the JV race, junior Hunter Rose raced for the first time in four weeks due to an injury. Rose placed 9th overall with a season best time of 18:27.

The next race for the XC team will be Saturday at the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet held at New Palestine High School.

Game Recap

The Trojans got back to their winning ways on Thursday evening in a 2-0 victory over Rushville Lions on Huffman Field. After playing to a 0-0 tie at the half, the Trojans made use of a corner kick by Tyler Broyles when Devon Hernly connected on a header to take a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute. It wasn’t until the final ten minutes in the game that the Trojans again found the back of the net on a goal by Kenny Martin off of another assist by Tyler Broyles.

New Castle is now 7-5 on the year, and hosts Hamilton Heights on Saturday, September 27th.

The New Castle boys cross country team competed in the Yorktown Invitational on Saturday. The team finished 3rd out of 14 teams with a score of 82 points. The Trojans were led by two top-ten finishes: Jeff Melton (5th) and Justin Burkholder (7th). Also placing for the Trojans were Patrick Calvert (13th), Bronson Dye (21st), Chris Graham (36th) and Tyler Vance (46th).Two Trojans competed in the JV race at the Yorktown Invitational. Freshman Trevor Ragle, debuting for the season after coming off an injury, placed 5th overall with an impressive time of 19:11. Also running JV was Jonathan Peoples in 12th.

The Trojan’s next meet is Saturday at the Delta Invitational at the Muncie Sports Complex.

The New Castle boys cross country team competed in their own invitational on Tuesday, September 16th. The team competed in the 6-Team New Castle Invitational at Memorial Park just north of town. The boys team finished in 2nd place with 65 points behind winner Mt. Vernon who scored a perfect 15 points. Leading the way for the Trojans was Jeff Melton who finished in 7th place with a time of 18:43. Also running for the Trojans was Bronson Dye (9th), Justin Burkholder (14th), Patrick Calvert (20th), Chris Graham (22nd), Tyler Vance (33rd), and Jonathan Peoples (47th).
