The NC middle school cross country team ran in the Pendleton Invitational Wednesday evening placing tenth of the 17 represented schools with two being incomplete teams. Noblesville won with an incredible low score of just 28 points with all five of their scoring runners in the top ten of the 100 runners. Pendleton (HHC champs) were 2nd with 61. Three more HHC teams came next. Doe Creek was 3rd with 92. Then falling off a bit but an easy 4th place was Mt Vernon with 150. Then things got tight for 5th through 11th, all having scores in the 200 range. It was Greenfield 218, Blue River 227, Aleandria 229, Wes -Del 240, Selma 247, NC 251, and Lapel 261. A little further back were Shenandoah 302, Northside 317, Daleville 332, and Frankton 354.
New Castle’s first in was Lydia Harvey in 33rd. Next was Mireya Guerrero 48th, followed by Lily Saunders 51st, Karsen Morgan 59th, and Maddy Meek 60th as the scoring five. As with the boys’ race Personal Bests times on this course were hard to find, but Coach Dye cites the following as turning in one of their stronger performances for the season: Harvey, Saunders, Morgan, Meek, Emma Hart, Patience Antrim, Riley Thompson, Addie McGowan, and Sarah Jones. While we would have liked to have moved up into that fifth or sixth spot, that would have taken a best or near best by each of our top five. We certainly could have gotten 8th with being just a few seconds faster in a couple spots, but it was nice to not have anyone have a bad run. This group could really show some improvement in team scoring next year if they continue to help push each other along and become more consistent. They have a great model in Lydia, who runs very steady race and shows consistent results.
It was great to see the three eighth graders end their middle school xc running with strong runs.
Monday will be each of the girl’s opportunity to go for the blue ribbon and show their fortitude in the stagger started intra-squad meet. Race time is 6 PM with a pitch in to follow.
