Meet Recap

New Castle Middle School cross country team beat Yorktown, but fell to Delta for only their second loss of the season. Delta won by having a clump of runners near the front despite NC’s top two runners taking first and second. Caleb Grow won his fourth straight race and Miller took runner-up honors for the fourth time. This one -two punch usually ensures a victory in a dual or three -way meet, but Delta took the next four spots, followed by Yorktown’s first, Delta’s fifth and sixth, the Tigers’ second runner, and then the Trojan’s third, fourth , and fifth. It was not good enough to match Delta, but did give NC second place over Yorktown. Team scores were Delta 26, NC 39, and Yorktown 62.
In addition to Grow and both Trey and Simon Miller’s strong performances, Coach Dye reports Gavin Frazier, Trighten Cummings, Bryce Jenkins, and Niki Greive as having improvement. Frazier moved up to eighth for the team placings, his best of the year. Greive’s time was only a second off his PR while the majority of runners were slowed by over thirty seconds due to the extreme heat and hills.
The team record goes to 8 and 2. The team will face off with the other seven Conference schools this coming Monday at 5:15 PM at Memorial Park.
