Game Recap

The New Castle High School boys soccer team claimed a 2-1 victory on the road over the host Rushville Lions. Appearing to be a little low on energy, the Trojans did not present much in the way of an attack in the first half. However the defense was solid for the most part, turning away each threat by Rushville. An unlucky handball call in the box went the way of the Lions, and they were able to finish their penalty kick, eventhough Andrew Glover managed to get his gloves to it. Coming out of halftime down 1-0, the Trojans picked up their energy level and intensity while maintaining possession of the ball in their attacking half for most of second 40 minutes of play. This finally paid off in the 47th minute, when Landon Malott picked up a loose ball about 5 yards outside of the 18 yard box, and after dribbling past a couple of defenders, rifled the ball to the left of the keeper, well out of his reach. The score stayed tied, even with the constant pressure that Rushville was under, until the 71st minute, when Carter Brown took a corner kick from the left and Clayton Rose’s header was not cleared far enough away by Rushville, and was found by Skylor Stevenson, who lasered the ball through the crowd in the box and past a goalkeeper that had no chance to react. After going up, the Trojan boys held firm to their lead.
